Root [Virgin Mobile] [ROM][NDC][STOCK][4.4.2][KITKAT][ROOTED][ODEXED/DEODEXED]- Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile

I notice it says this is a flashable update. My question is... Can I install this if im currently running a custom rom, or do I need to be on stock 4.3 or stock 4.4 to have this work?

First and foremost you need to have installed either the NDC or ND8 bootloader tar ball through Odin before you do anything. You MUST be on the latest bootloader, otherwise you WILL brick you phone. Once that is done, you can install this however you like.

I know it is their own fault and what not, but can we add, in big letters, FLASH NDC OR ND8 TAR BALL FIRST to the top of the OP? Just noticed a bunch of people bricking their phones. Also, the warning is kind of hidden on the XDA thread and should probably be in big letters not hidden by a button there as well.

Not faulting you or anything, just think that something that could brick a phone should be in big letters and completely unavoidable.

I just got my S3 replacement (original got stolen), and I was running a liquidsmooth KK nightly (I rooted mk5 4.3 and then used philz to flash my custom ROM, which is what I just did to my replacement phone). Can someone explain to me what this is? I want to use liquidsmooth KK and not stock touchwiz so do I have any need to get the new modem and bootloader or should I flash a custom ROM of my choice from my rooted stock 4.3?

If you plan on running Liquid smooth or any AOSP as your daily driver DO NOT ODIN THE NEW TOUCHWIZ KIT KAT. It's not that it won't work, it just appears you're much better off with the MK5 modem. And once you install the new boot loader you can't use an older modem anymore. :( Just flash whatever AOSP custom rom you want. You will only need to use Odin for Kit Kat if you want the new Touchwiz version (NDC or ND8.)

Update: I just did all of the steps over again, including the NDC tar and all is well.I wish I would have re-done this on Monday!!

Problem: I am not able to write data to my phone via downloads or restoring a backup (ADW EX Launcher).

How this came about:
I just updated my VM S3 using the files from the link provided in the OP with the ODEX version of stock. After I updated the binary via SuperSU, I was able to get phone connectivity to dial out.

I did notice that now it said Samsung on the lock screen so I followed the directions in post 2 from the link. What I failed to notice in that post is that the phone would also do a factory reset. Aaargh! Okay, so that's done. After I signed into Google on the phone, my apps all downloaded as I had Google back them up.

What I HAVE noticed is that I am unable to download things to my phone from Gmail or Google Drive. I just get a message "Couldn't download. Touch to retry." in Gmail. From Drive "Download from Google Drive failed. Try again later." I tried to create a backup of ADW EX Launcher just to see where the backup went on my phone and I get "Error creating backup."

I can, however, download and install apps from Google Play directly from my phone. I can connect my phone to my computer and copy files to the phone or card. For example, I have certain sounds that I like for notifications, calls, and an alarm. I couldn't save them to my phone by downloading, but I was able to save them to the microSD card and then assign them as defaults.

This was working before I updated to 4.4.2, so my assumption is that this is why I am not able to do this now. Any thoughts?

Not sure that this is your problem,,, but 4.4.2 does not allow 3rd party apps to write to the sd card.

To fix this get and run NextApp SDFix from the play store.

It seems like some people are having problems saving to internal sd as well. Must be some kind of bug.

No this is not a bug (in the true sense of a bug). For security reasons Google disallows the ability for third party apps to write to the sd card.

However there are apps (such as NextApp SDFix) that change the read/write permissions so that you can overcome this "4.4.2 Feature"

Edit: When I first installed 4.4.2 I could not download any podcasts to the sd card until TheBritton pointed me to the fix I noted above.

However, I cannot write to the INTERNAL SD card. To me, that would be a bug. As in, that is basic functionality that isn't working. All of my apps are on the phone itself. I only use my SD card to side load movies.

Just an update on my "can't write to internal SD", I started completely over with ODIN and the NDC tar, etc. I had a dickens of a time getting SuperSU to give me the option to update the binary so I could connect to data and phone. However... it all works now!! (And I canceled the order I had placed for a new S3 from HSN.) :)

Hey guys, not sure if this has been discussed but the main reason I haven't been using these stock odexed and deodexed Roms are mainly due to the fact that I am unable to have Facebook and google+ (and other apps) download pictures on my internal or external SD. Also when I'm trying to delete something off my Internal and external SD I am unable to. Is there a fix for this? It really gets annoying because I download a lot of pictures off my google+ and Facebook.

I had a similar problem. First I downloaded sdfix from the play store which helped with the external sd. Then I downloaded foldermount from the play store and just opened it once and it fixed the internal sd problem.
