[Official] Cricket Referral Discussion Thread, No Links

Yep, I got a referral from DonB too. I ordered my sim last Friday when it was still AIO and was surprised to see everything say Cricket when I got everything activated last night, I thought I heard it wasn't happening till June. I used the referral code this morning on the Cricket referral page because the link in the AIO referral email doesn't lead to any page at all now, all seems to have worked well though since I got an email from Cricket saying the referral was validated. So far the service is working really well on my Nexus 5, the AT&T towers have much better coverage in this area than the Sprint towers I was on with Virgin Mobile before.

Your welcome and welcome to Cricket

I too was a longtime Sprint user and could not take their service any longer, thus why I made the move, and it has been the best move ever.

Make sure since you are on an unlocked N5, that you download the Cricket WiFi app on your device from the Play store, that will hook up to Cricket hot spot areas and save your data. In my case I have an unlocked AT&T device, so I don't need the Cricket app as it hooks up to AT%T WIFi spots, which is pretty. One place as an example, was Sam's club, I use to go in there with Sprint no service, Cricket (old AIO) hooks right up to WiFi and does not use my data, which is cool. ;)

FYI everyone, be careful with the reward stream referrals until someone confirms they are still good. I doubt they are BC ATT has a different service doing AIO and new cricket referrals.

I like reward stream much better though, virgin used them. Haha

But ATT seems to like people to go in and send you a referral by email and not just a link hahaha

Not saying the first link doesn't work, just double check with cs first to make sure it'll work.

I can confirm that the AIO now cricket referral system is still working where you need to pm a user and have them request a referral on your behalf.

Yeah they sent text messages immediately upon turning the phone back on after putting the sim card in. The number port seemed to be instantly, I was expecting it to take a little while after reading all the horror stories of people porting out of Virgin Mobile but honestly it was one of the easiest things I've done. The Virgin Mobile support was even courteous with me, they were all Indian but very nice and helpful, they didn't make me wait on hold very long either... I was very surprised with how well it all went. The guys on the support line were even interested in hearing about the Nexus 5, one of them said he was going to look it up later.lol

But yeah, I got all the Cricket Apps. I haven't been to a lot of places to know if it actually connects to wifi anywhere other than my home wifi. I'm getting LTE everywhere I've been so far and a pretty good signal even inside buildings... although I haven't been to walmart yet with it, walmart was always a super dead zone before... actually every store with a big metal roof was a dead zone before.

Kool IMO you will see a difference I have and don't regret the move, I had dead zones at Costco and Sam's club and no issues now. ;)

Actually do you of a list or something that says where the wifi locations are? I was trying to find a list or something of where I could expect wifi coverage but I couldn't find anything.

No I don't I just know my phone connected automatically at Sam's club and Home Depot, since my phone is an unlocked AT&T device it connects to all their WiFi hotspots

Just read some reviews on the Play store for the app and it seems it doesn't work well on the Nexus 5. But also found out that it seems to use the AT&T wifi hotspots which you can search for on the AT&T website. Also reading the reviews it seems you don't even need to be a cricket customer to use the app. lol

How do software updates work with Cricket? I just got AT&T Kitkat on my GS3 so I'm probably done there, but let's say that in the future AT&T offers an Android L update, or I get a GS5. Does Cricket "roll out" updates just like AT&T or how do you get an Android version update then?

Lastly, can I join Cricket now even though my GS3 is locked to AT&T? My contract expires in 2 or 3 weeks so I have to wait until then to request an unlock. Not the biggest deal to wait I guess, but just wondering.

Well I can tell you that my neighbor brought a Locked AT&T device and at the time AIO store would not and could not activate it, so he had to pay the get the device unlocked.

So unless they changed their policy I have not heard different. Reps always say different things, my neighbor actually brought the phone in to the store.

The phone is supposed to be unlocked, according to their policy. However, locket AT&T phones will work on Cricket. When the clerks ask you if the phone is unlocked, you have to say yes. They will, for a variety of reasons, refuse to test a locked AT&T phone, even though it will work fine. I have a locked 920 running on Cricket to attest that locked AT&T phones can work fine.
