Help HTC Incredible TM White Screen Keeps Flashing - Phone Won't Boot - Please Help

Hi,

I just got an HTC Incredible (original model) that I bought from a dealer on Amazon to activate on Straight Talk. Well, I don't know what exactly happened. I had completed the transferring of my phone number, and as I was waiting for the port to complete, I went ahead and connected to the WiFi in my house and downloaded my apps. I inserted my old microSD card and started listening to some music I had stored on it. Everything seemed to be working fine. Then I made the call to start programming the phone. The call disconnected and somehow I got stuck on the HTC boot screen. I may have pressed a button somewhere in the confusion, but I'm not sure?

Anyway, here I am. The phone is stuck at the "HTC Incredible" TM white screen. It pops up like it's going to boot up, goes black for a second like I should being seeing the red Droid eye, but instead it just loops over and over with the HTC Incredible screen.

I've tried:
-Pulling and replacing the battery
-Rebooting from the reboot screen
-Selecting recovery from the reboot screen
-Selecting Factory Reset from the reboot screen

I can't get any further than the reboot screen. I can select options from the menu as above, but when I select one all that happens is the "HTC Incredible" white screen loop starts over again. It won't do anything else.

Can someone please help me? I've tried reading the threads with similar issues, but I haven't found one with this exact issue. And also, I don't speak techie, so if you could help me troubleshoot in layman's terms, I'd be very, very, very grateful.

Thank you!

You seem to be in a "boot loop". This isn't a new condition to stop-the-press and investigate (from an old-user's POV).

My advice if you choose to accept it: Search the forum, multiple forums if you'd like, for escaping a boot loop on an original Incredible and you'll find procedures worth trying. Good luck.

I know it's an old issue. I've been reading and I guess I don't "speak the language" well enough to understand how to do the more advanced troubleshooting. I can press buttons and follow a menu easily enough, but anything more complicated and I get lost. Like rooting and fat32, those are terms I've read in my searches in forums where the things I've tried haven't worked for other users -the problem is I don't understand what I'm reading let alone how to do it. That's why I asked the question.

To give you an idea of just how behind the technology I am. . . I'm a person who has been using dumb phones until very recently, and only just started using an SD card like two days ago when I bought this phone and decided I wanted to download some music for it. Back when I had contract phones, I would just take it to the store and let them deal with it, but having to DIY is the price you pay for going pre-paid, I guess. :-(

Thanks anyway. Maybe I'll try my luck on youtube.

I have the same problem, I gave the phone to my sister, she decided that she wanted an Iphone instead so she gave this phone back to me. I did a factory reset, then cleared storage and now I am stuck on the boot loop where the black HTC text is and then a repeating loop of endless boot and rebooting. I have tried everything in this and other forums and so far nothing.

my PC will not recognize my phone when in hboot, and every PB31IMG zip file that I have downloaded or tried will either not work, load, check the image and just go back to hboot, or load, try to update and give me the Main Version is older! Update Fail! Do you want to reboot device? not sure why that is since form what i am reading the hboot is the correct version to reflash the roms on these sites

here is my phones info

I have tried to do recovery and when I managed to do it I still had the same problem, I have tried to up/downgrade stock images and hbboot from pvillecomp.com/ and other sites, no luck... like I said I dont care what rom is installed I just want it to work like before I did the factory reset/clear storage. WHAT AM I MISSING HERE??

your bootloader is locked and you are "s-on"... you can only flash the EXACT firmware(RUU/PB31IMG.zip) of what you are currently running or you will get the "main version is older" error... I'm not sure HTC ever released a copy of the latest firmware... I'll have to look around...
edit: can try the latest image found here (dated feb 2013), you will have to rename the file to PB31IMG

I havealready tried the 4.08.605.2 image, no luck same thing, what I did find out is that if i stick my phone in the fridge for 20 mins or so I can get the phone to stay on for about 5-10 mins.... had to have it on that long to bypass the activation because I dont have a carrier for it. will see if I can keep it on long enough to try the Unrevoked method and see what that does

I just want to phone to work, since I have tried everything else I figured that I would try a root, but cant keep it on long enough to do that. UPDATE: I managed to Root because I kept putting the phone in the freezer to stay cold. I think I am going to take the phone apart and try to make some plastic spacers where the four screws go into the phone/board to see if that will give me some more time before whatever it is that is getting too hot causes the boot problem and let you guys know if that helps at all. I just wish I also had some thermal paste or a heatsink that could fit in there so that I could fix this problem
