Root [Boost Mobile] Question Reguarding Recent Kitkat Upgrade!

http://androidforums.com/boost-mobi...-rom-tw-4-4-2-conquest-singularity-3-3-a.html

This is what I looking at as replacement ROM looks pretty nice and has hotspot already there. I am currently making a Titanium Backup to a dropbox now and will do the nandroid backups as per install instructions. I made a back up of nova settings on dropbox too so now I wondering what I need to do to cover my contacts and and settings or are they covered when I log on to google play which is what I an assuming. Any other prep work will I need to do? Will I need to play around changing sprint numbers to boost? Can I use my NDC device will I need to change that? Just firing off some questions as I still need to read more on the ROM just saw it tonight but I know you guys have all the answers TIA! I copy ROM zip to SD card and install using Philz recover?

I'm running Conquest now. As far as your contacts, as long as you have them backed up with your Google account they'll be added back when you sign into your Google account.

You'll be fine with NDC. The Conquest ROM has an Aroma installer and will ask you what your carrier is. Just choose Boost and it will set the correct APN settings for you.

Once you are set up with the NDC bootloader and have Philz installed, all you need to do place the custom ROM on your SD card and flash it.

You need to make a backup of the stock ROM with Philz before you flash the new ROM. That way you'll have a backup if something goes wrong.

I tested the built-in hotspot on this ROM (Conquest) and it connected to my computer and worked perfectly. I had a problem connecting to my tablet though. It would connect but I couldn't get data to work on the tablet. The WiFi Tether Router app wouldn't even work. I flashed my Wicked-X backup and the default Hotspot connects to my pc and the WiFi Tether Router app connects to my tablet. Just some food for thought in case you plan on connecting to a tablet using your phone as the hotspot.

There is a nice performance tweak for Conquest called Comadose. It needs a script added in order for it to work properly. If you decide on Conquest and are interested in the tweak after you have gotten everything set up, let me know and I'll walk you through the process.

I installed Conquest ROM and have some questions on install.
First think i noticed when I installed new Conquest ROM was lost my voice calls I had saved I would have like them but I can live without them. I cant seem to find any backup of them with Titanium Backup. I lost my email accounts as well but was easy to reinstall account by adding email address and pw. I was able restore all non system files which is how I did my Titanium Backup after watching the video on it at the google play site and that help save time installing all my apps. I used backup of Nova Launcher and got system pretty well setup looking like old setup just had to tweak wallpaper widgets. The biggest problem for me was I did not know the messages were handled by hangout and I app I really hate to use so at present time I could not find the default message app I was using which I what I thought would be installed and I could just use Titanium Backup to get messages back. Not sure how to fix that atm I would love to get my old one back with my texts. I installed GO SMS Pro Premium app I used when I first bought phone but was too many bells and whistles I like the message app I was using and not sure how to get it back. I did 2 Backups of Titanium Backup on on SD card and another sync to dropbox as far as backups go plus the nandroid when before Installed ROM.
Let me post this now for comments and feedback, help, ect.

I got this message too Titanium Backup device id has changed and followed this advice on web...

nope. im always flashing new roms and use TiBu and yea i get that every time i start fresh. like what has been said, dont restore system data, just restore user data. and yea you can restore your ID from a previous rom without problems

Biker, I am also on the Conquest ROM and both of my tablets connect to the hotspot. I have an old Nook Color w/cm7 and a stock Asus 701T.

Just sharing :)

Thanks. I don't get it man. It connects but no Internet. Wifi Tether Router app won't even broadcast a signal.

Wicked-X works fine. Oh well. Sh*t happens. At least i have a way to use my phone as a Hotspot. It doesn't matter which ROM does it. If I'm not running Wicked-X I can always flash my backup and use the hotspot. :D:thumbup:

I had to reinstall the ROM and update and this time I choose custom install to get messaging app and grabbed some other files and everything is working and this time. I let it update all the files from google play and did not use Titanium Backup except in cases where I wanted to data file and been using them as needed to get apps with settings updated. I am able to use it on one of the PCs had time to test and worked fine out of the box for the PC. I have old HTC EVO4G someone left in my car and and never claimed I will test it to see if I had hotspot it later. I have this app I recently seen and trying to decide if I will reinstall my nandroid backup of phone before I installed ROM and get my messages.

Right on. Glad you are getting the hang of it. It just takes time man. Time and a lot of practice.

Conquest not being able to connect to my tablet really isn't an issue. If I am running Conquest and the need arises where I need to use my phone as a hotspot, I can flash my backup of Wicked-X and be up and running in less than 10 minutes.

1ST AND FOREMOST....... REMEMBER TO MAKE A ROM BACKUP WITH PHILZ BEFORE YOU FLASH COMADOSE. ;)

Here's how you need to set up Comadose on Conquest. I recommend going with the 75% entropy. Once you have flashed Comadose, placed the entropy file where it needs to go, checked all the permissions and reboot, you'll see almost an immediate increase in performance. It really is a awesome mod. :)

Note: You'll need a rooted file explorer to place the entropy file where it needs to go and set the permissions. I use the paid version of Root Explorer. The rooted file explorer you use will probably work the same way if you're not using Root Explorer.

Once the entropy file is where it needs to be, you'll long press the entropy file and it brings up a bunch of options. Permissions is among those options. You tap it and then select ALL of the read, write, and execute boxes. Don't mess with any of the boxes on the bottom. Leave those blank.

Here's the link to Comadose. Just put it on your sd card and then boot into Philz. Make sure you wipe the cache, then go to advanced, wipe the Dalvik cache, flash Comadose, then reboot.

Well guess what????? As we know, Wicked-X has a working hotspot. You just need to flash the fix in the ROM thread to unlock it. I was playing around with my S3 and tablet just now and tried connecting to my tablet via the built-in hotspot on Wicked-X. IT WORKS!!!! The freaking built-in hotspot on Wicked-X will connect to both my tablet AND my pc. This is one of the few ROMs I've found who's built-in hotspot will connect to both my pc and tablet. Cool Beans! :D LOL!!!

EDIT:

I don't know if I've mentioned this already or not but Wicked-X has the PRL Write feature added to the ROM. Conquest doesn't have it. If you want to change your PRL just make a backup of Conquest, then flash Wicked-X and change to the PRL you want. Restore your Philz backup of Conquest and you're good to go. The PRL is like the bootloader and the modem. Flashing a ROM does not change it. It stays the same until you change it to another one or you do a PRL update in settings and it will update to the newest Boost PRL. ;)

Just thought I'd mention that because I just changed my PRL the other day. :D

Earlier post I said I said I connected my PC to the ROM and it worked I meant it worked as a hotspot connecting using wireless. Not tested it as tether device yet (usb). I getting mixed up with tether and hotspot and as I am understanding atm.....

Hotspot - Connect to other devices using wireless connection.
Tethering - Connect to other devices using usb cable.

I could use some feedback if I got it right or need the correct terminology:D

Did you lose your voicemail messages or your call log? If you lost your call log there is a great app called Nandroid Manager that will let you restore it from your nandroid backups. It also lets you restore text messages and apps.

Can't help with lost voicemail..

I lost voicemail not a big deal to recover.
I see now that after second install I used a custom to get the default message app back so I will check out Nandroid Manager ans see if I can get those messenger files back look like a cool app to use.

The other problem I am having now after second install is the email app was able setup for my 4 email accounts with email address and pw no problem. Its not the 4.4.2 email app I had on my system before I installed ROM but another version of email app thats really bad for me and it says I cant install for my device. I cant click on links from email anymore no more sorting stuff and its way worse for me to use with its missing features.
I dont know if there were options like the messaging to install different app doing a custom install so if anyone seen it please let me know.
I just want to use the default email app if possible.
I can use Gmail app and it works fine with clicking links ect just mail email address is on verizon.

Heres the link to email app that installed from Conquest ROM
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.email

While I was writing this message I used to Nandroid Manager to restore 800 texts and 600 call in my call log! :D:eek::):smokingsomb: so that made my day I just need to figure out how to fix my email problem.

How about this question is any way that someone could make a apk file that just added the hotspot ability like from the one from the Conquest ROM where someone could just install the file? I assuming no but you never know unless I ask.

so does anyone know if this is possible is there a hotspot apk in the wicked rom or conquest rom that might work on a stock or other custom rom? or can a flashable .zip style mod be made?

i know there are paid apps in the playstore but why if its free in a rom? im not a fan of the themes for either rom no offense to the devs hard work.

I just spent better half of night finding out what is going on with email and heres what happened when I installed ROM second time and was going through the setup of email I used the linked earlier version of the email client
which was one I assume you added to your ROM.

When I setting up the ROM I started installing all my email accounts. 1 each of hotmail, gmail, and verizon.net, I then was using mainly my verizon acct and looking at a lot of emails that where bugged could not click links in them on a lot of sites.
I found out today it was just my verizon acct that was bugged. Then I look at apps and saw the old email client that I was using on my phone.
I tried to re-setup the old email app and and had problem with duped accounts so I got mad and uninstall the new email app so I could work
with the old app. To my delight I now have the old email working with
gmail and verizon.

Everything on those 2 accounts are working fine but now I cant get hotmail to reinstall. I tried using working email app and tired to install through Microsoft Exchange and it not connecting.

I know when was connected earlier it was listed a a corporate entry so guessing guessing pulling out the newer email account had something was making it connected.

Confused yet?:D
So now I cant even install this link to update email because not compatible device is showing and wont let me install.
What can I do to get the linked email app installed or my hotmail installed?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.email

I was able to fix this hotmail address using same email program that was working.
I added the email address using the IMAP Email option and it filled the blanks after
entering email address and pw.......... WoW it took awhile but looking good atm...:smokingsomb:

Ok bro I am finally ready to try Comadose with the 75% entropy file after tweaking my system and getting my backups done. I got the files and was about to install but wanted make sue I understood what the entropy instructions were heres the link to it.................

[ROM][ND8][4.4.2] Wicked X v7.1 [Updated 6/13/14] - Post #245 - XDA

From what I am gathering that when he says he means copy the text file to system/etc/init.d folder? I never installed a file like this.
And how do I Set permissions to 0777 (everything checked)? how is the text file is loaded with Comadose? Ah I not really following this atm and I rather wait for a explanation to be safe. ROM is working great atm and fixed all the problem I had and it pretty close to a dupe of my old system only now I hotspot and tether as needed.

You copy the entropy file to the location specified (system/etc/init.d) Once copied there, long press on the file. A list of options will pop up. Permissions will be among them. Select it. You'll have the boxes under READ, WRITE, EXICUTE. Check the boxes in those categories. It says special permissions at the bottom. Leave all of those blank.

Easy peasy
