Root [Verizon] Installing ROM in a slot

I am on the leaked stock 4.4.2 on my Verizon Note 3. I am wanting to install the Resurrection Remix ROM. Can I only install it on the Stock slot or can I install it on a different slot? I ask because I've read where the newest Hyperdrive can only be installed on the stock slot.

Thanks!

Hi

ROMs are software items so there are no physical "slots" for them.

If you mean can I "dual boot" a ROM alongside another (ie have them both installed at the same time and choose which to use) then no. There is no (easy) way to do that. (No doubt a few wizards at XDA may know better by repartitioning etc, but no for normal folk)

When you install a different ROM, you overwrite the memory where the previous one was stored.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

I was referring to the "slots" in recovery. When you boot into recovery (TWRP) there are "slots" in which to put ROMs. One stock slot and 4 other slots one can configure to run other ROMs and what have you. I was wondering if these other "slots" worked on the new leaked 4.4.2. As stated previously, if running the newest Hyperdrive ROM, it only runs on the stock "slot" and will not run on other "slots". I was wondering if other ROMs would only run on the stock "slot" or can I use another "slot"?

In 4.3 you can use Safestrap (recovery) and create up to 4 (I think) ROM slots...so then you could have stock ROM, Hyperdrive, JellyBean...etc. all installed. Then when you boot your phone you can enter recovery and select which ROM's to boot into. I have heard the 4.4.2 ROM are a little more difficult...like Hyperdrive 4.4.2 has to be installed into the stock slot only...don't know about other 4.4.2 ROM's, but would figure they may also.

Thanks for explaining - didn't know you could do that!

Apparently I cannot install another ROM on a slot other than the stock slot. I tried and got nothing. After setting up the parameters of the slot, I tried to do a full wipe before installing the ROM. The screen would go black for a second then go back to the screen with all the slots listed. When I rebooted the phone, after the SafeStrap splash screen, all I got was a black screen and nothing else. I did a battery pull and tried again with the same result. I tried to go into reboot mode (Home+Vol up+power) and that wouldn't work either. "Reboot recovery" would show at the top of the screen in blue but it wouldn't actually go into that mode. Did another battery pull and when the SafeStrap splash screen came up, I went into recovery and went back to my stock slot. Phone is working fine now but only on the stock slot. I guess that is the only slot usable. I also noticed that although I only have the stock slot using the stock 4.4.2, the phone shows something in slot 1 and slot 2. I'm not sure what is there but I do have the option to "Activate" those slots if I chose to but I haven't put anything into those slots. Kind of weird...

I tried and got the same thing...then I read this thread. I'm too nervous about playing with the stock slot though.

Just create a backup of whatever you have in the stock slot then overwrite it with the ROM you want to put there.

If you ever feel like going back just restore the older ROM, it's basically what people without safestrap have to do :p;)

Unfortunately, I did just that last night. Got soft bricked. Figured I would just restore the backup, but that didn't work either. Thought I had Odin, but didnt....track down Odin, find out what version to use (3.09) and then get the .tar file. 3 hours to download. Then on to learn how to use Odin, reflash and re-root. Now I'm back to where I started from, but what a pain for no gain.

Assuming you were stuck in a bootloop?

When you made the backup you saved the System / Data right?

Then you advanced wipe, dalvik, cache, system, data, and install the ROM and reboot, should work.

I am so glad I read this thread. I tried several times last weekend to get that first ROM slot to create a backup. I knew I was following those directions to the letter! I thought I had gone crazy or that my phone was just a throwback. I feel so much better now knowing that it wasn't me. I chickened out and removed safestrap for now and am just rooted but I kept the stock ROM I had created for just in case.

Rooting the phone was the big deal for me anyway. At least now I have my TiBu back up and running and no more ads! Yay!

If you get the latest version of Safestrap the ROM slots are back, v3.75 :)

Looks like I'll be trying again soon. I'm going to spend a little time trolling around to see what ROM I want to try out.

I really dislike the skin that Samsung puts on their devices, so I went with the Eclipse ROM, which to my surprise is actually skin'd really well. You should check it out, makes my device look like a Nexus device :)

I also just spent the time updating this list: http://androidforums.com/verizon-ga...-note-3-all-things-root-guide-06-26-14-a.html
