Root [Virgin Mobile] Quick question re: future OTA updates & root

Meaning there isn't an actual Knox app present in the drawer. The Knox boot loader is there for sure, since it's showing a flag in download mode. Just no app. My gf's s4 has a Knox app so I assumed I should too.
I was running the Knox-free mk5 beforehand.

Right now I'm connected to Kies seeing if it'll get me there. It failed once but now seems to be working (fingers crossed).

On a side note, why is Kies so unpredictable? Had to plug in 5 times before it decided it needed to reinstall its drivers.

There is no Knox app on mk5. And if you get kies to show you have an update coming, please don't take it until you read my instructions on how to capture it before it flashes your phone! For the rest of us :)

For sure ! Right now it's just rewriting mk5, I'll keep an eye out for ndc.

update:
While Kies did successfully rewrite my mk5, I am still getting the same error as before trying to install the update.Tried both SD card and ADB methods.
I was just trying to rule out download corruption being the culprit, as it's happened before.

Thanks for the update @sanjuro77. Looks like the OTA won't stick for folks who have rooted before. I'm hoping to get a solution soon!

I follow you in the threads and you have been so helpful to me.. Thank you. I asked this in xda but no one answered, probably because it's redundant and I can't find the answer anywhere. I have a stock rooted gs3 running CWM recovery, & I had the OTA fell twice. I really want a 4.4 update and I'll reroute later. I just don't know what I can do to my galaxy s3 to make that happen. I don't have acomputer, so I'd be interested in any method I could use to do it by phone. Heck I will buy Mobile Odin if necessary. I'm going to uninstall my posted XDA they just ignored me. I just don't want my over the air update to fail again and I don't know if it's sitting on my phone somewhere or not. I can't get it to say I have an update now its just dry spells and disappears like it never happened. If you reply to me thank you in advance! My wife and I are starting to get nervous and desperate

Thanks for the kind words. Your OTA is failing because you have cwm. It will only take if you have stock recovery, which you can only get through Odin. Without a computer to flash the ota, it's not likely you'll get the ota. Flashing the tar through mobile Odin is NOT recommended. Too many things can go wrong. I personally would not risk it. My advice, borrow a buddy's laptop, flap Odin on it, flash the NDC tar I put up and call it a day. Takes about 15 minutes once you have the file. Good luck.

Oh thank you, I was just reading an older thread you were in and had authored and just found you had responded, thank you! I'm going to try to find a way to get access to a computer, then I'm going to flash the NDC tar you put up . You have been definitely helpful to me! Yesterday... I had just worked 18 hours straight, and had just come home.. And my wife was pissed off at me because the s3 would not take Kit Kat and she was very mad at me because I had a custom recovery! So I posted a desperate set of questions, one of which was a thread (attemp).. embarrassingly, on XDA. I wish I could erase those now! You been helpful many times where I would be browsing threads and get the answers. Thanks again my friend

Just edit it, delete everything, and replace it with the word "delete." Folks do it all the time. Good luck flashing! I think you'll like it

I'm going to dig around and find the thread now I hope its got good directions I've been doing this a couple years but I'm no developer and this is our only phone lol
