Help 64Gb Micro SDXC card causes audio playback problems

Well, a while back I bought a SanDisk 64Gb Micro SDXC card. I popped it into the phone, it was recognised straight away, it was formatted by the phone, and I saved a tonne of music to it.

All was well for a while, but then I started to get playback issues. In short, music would plan but would intermittently pause, catch-up, pause again, catch-up again, etc.. It is awful.

At first I thought it was a Bluetooth issue in my car, but I upgraded the car Bluetooth and it got no better. And then I noticed the same problem when using wired headphones.

I've tried listening to music in flight-mode (the constant wireless scanning does the 'stuttering' effect sometimes) but it got no better. I tried killing as many apps as I dared, but it still happens.

Does anyone know what the issue might be?

Ok, so finally got a card-reader for my laptop and can now say that the SDXC card is formatted as exFAT, which in itself is interesting as it was formatted using the format option on the phone. So if FAT is the correct formatting, why would the phone format as exFAT?

So, should I format it as FAT32? The implication from above is that it should be. Any thoughts / advice?

That's odd. I'm on Windows 7 and plugged my 64Gb Micro SDXC card into my laptop, opened a Command window and entered "FORMAT E: /FS:FAT32". It chugged along for ages, got to 100% and then said "The volume is too big for FAT32". So it is now unformatted (RAW).

So if the solution is to format it as FAT32, why can't I format it?
