Is the KitKat upgrade for G2 successful or a disaster?

When I downloaded KitKat for my G2 I got kicked off if constant 4G and how I'm stuck on 3G. I've also gotten freezes and lag issues. There are also times where I have an active data connection and nothing will go though on kik or anything. The I get to ignore calls and call people back now. If I try to answer calls the phone refuses to connect and just shows the call screen. 95% of the time I can't accept an incoming call. Gonna make LG repair it. Whenever they decide to respond to my repair request.

When your doing the upgrade you have to switch back to 4g under settings

I'm stuck on stock because I currently don't have access to a pc to take the measures to revert back to jelly bean; otherwise, I would have done that a long time ago. Finally gotten so fed up I'd rather just deal with the wait for LG to repair it.

With autorec now available and towelroot you wont have to be on stock and you dont need a computer to do it.

TowelRoot roots your Phone directly from your phone, then install su from playstore and then install autorec to put on twrp.

Once that is all done you can put on custom roms

I have an unlocked AT&T version on another carrier. How do i force an update? from the settings menu it says i'm up to date on 4.2.2
If the AT&T variant doesn't allow WiFi only updates, try adding the fota variable to your APN type field... Not sure it will work but it can't hurt.

Other options would be to flash manually via KDZ or TOT file, borrow an active AT&T SIM from a friend, or if your local AT&T Corp stores are super nice, ask them to borrow a demo SIM to test something in the store (be honest with them, the reps here have been super friendly with helping, even in odd situations like this).

I'm willing to try this, but dont know how to do this. Or rather, what is the info to put in this field? I wasnt getting data when I first got the phone and had to lookup the APN info to make data show up so I know how to enter the info. I did think about going to an AT&T store as a last resort for help. I downloaded driver software from the LG website onto my Macbook to try it that way but that didnt help (or I don't know what I'm doing).

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi, I got the european model of LG G2, D802 that is. I just want to share my experience and see what you guys think. Shortly after I got this amazing phone, which was just a week ago, somehow the update started running. I researched a lot about this smartphone before I bought it and was informed about the battery drain that the update may cause, and stopped it when it reached 42% (I was really confused whether I want it or not). After I did that, I restarted it and checked the OS. For my surprise, it was updated to KitKat. After I got a little freaked out, I turned off auto-sync, turned off GPS and the "Ok Google" feature and did a factory reset (with LG backup), and I am still on KitKat. Did a few battery tests and my results weren't very impressive, and I wonder if my battery life is affected in any way by this update (that isn't even the full update but I still got all KitKat features). I'm really scared for it because it was very expensive for me. It really is a wonderful and beautiful phone, not like my older trash phones. I got it with my own money and I don't like the idea of trashing it on the first day, and I really can't tell if battery life is like it should be, because I didn't get the chance of experiencing much of Jelly Bean.

Anyways, sorry for the long text. English isn't my first language but I hope I made everything clear. I love this smartphone and I think the update is successful for me, because I don't have any issues with it for now. Knock On works just fine and nothing crashes. I'm just concerned about the battery life.

So, what do you guys think? Does anyone else have the european model updated to KitKat? I would love to read your opinions.

I tried the fota variable, that didn't work. i'm a little leery about flashing the phone. I havent gone to the AT&T store yet, but I did goto the place where I got the phone, and they told me that it shouldnt matter that I have a sim from another carrier. I do believe that because I've had unlocked phones for a few years and didn't have this problem when I had an S3. I can only check OTA once a day (which is stupid) to check for an update. It's wierd, it first says my phone isnt registered, i immediately check again, it then says i have to wait 23 hours and 59 minutes to check again. The LG suite on a windows computer says i'm up to date. But other LG G2 phones on AT&T have KitKat :( Mine is D800. Does that matter?

Hi guys, I did all updates last night and did a factory reset and my phone is updated to D80220f-EUR-XX. My battery life is way better now (It has been 100% for 8 hours and is still at 100% as I type this) I got rid of "Ok Google" and got Knock Code.

Only problem for now is the 2 seconds of black screen when I get a call. Anyone got a solution for that?

That's interesting. For a goof, maybe try removing and reinstalling your SIM, reboot and retry settings > system updates.

Oh and I was a long time holdout on KK. Just updated 2 days ago. Seems to be running smoother imo. Battery is as good as JB so far.

I'm still waiting to see a reason to update to KitKat.

Same exact thing I'd been saying for months. I finally updated due to an unknown system process that was killing my battery. Went through all the usual channels to identify and finally got mad and since I was going to reflash stock, figured I might as well try KK at that point.
