Note:

I've noticed a bug. When you wake up the device from standby it connects to the Wi-Fi, but doesn't display the icon in the status bar and if you go to the settings the Wi-Fi toggle is in the disabled position.

It's not a bug.

You can find the settings in extra settings for Wi-Fi.
(I noticed that settings when I done the factory reset.)

That is to do with the new security implementation, in case the device is stolen, Google and Samsung will be able to track the device and disable the device if needed.

I don't see any advanced wireless setting that is remotely related to the behavior I experience.

I turn on from sleep, it connects to the wireless network, but doesn't show the Wi-Fi icon in the status bar or notify you of the network it has connected to and you can't enable the Wi-Fi toggle, yet you can still use wireless data. None of my other Android devices do this or have ever done it. Only a restart resolves it.

Will have to flash mine manually if I want to go to 4.4.2 as I rooted my tablet to remove the bloatware so the OTA update will not work.

Look on the bright side,
At least you will have a copy of the firmware saved as a backup in case something goes wrong during the update...

I always download a a copy of the firmware from Sammobile to my computer just in case.

CF-AUTOROOT works fine on the kitkat firmware.

I have a issue with Netflix after upgrading to 4.4.2. You can't slide the progression bar to advance or rewind. It don't stay on the screen to use it. It just flashes on the screen and disappears.
Many people complaining about problems with "Netflix" app since the update...
I don't know if is Samsung fault or if is Netflix developer's fault. In any case my advice to you is to report the problem to Samsung by email, and hopefully they might look into it...

That is strange...

If you are unable to update with "OTA" or with "Kies",
Than the best way to solve the problem is to download the firmware from "Sammobile" and flash the firmware with "Odin".
Just type the name of your device (ex: SM-T310) in the firmware browser and select the firmware.

:D Happy flashing!

Interesting it SamMobile doesn't give me the option for the United States for the country pull down. What would be a good alternate firmware country to use?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

😊 You will find a firmware update for the USA.

But on XDA some people in the US reported to have flashed the French firmware on without any problems.

Just remember to search and download the corresponding firmware for your device.

Example: I'm using the Tab3 8.0 Wifi version: "SM-T310"

I will not go for KitKat until there is a way to share RW a directory between applications on SD card. Example, I have thousands of eBooks, that I use with multiple eBooks readers. I want to be able to delete, rename, download, annotate, keep organized, etc... with *any* of them. Same with other media, such as music, pics, video, etc...

And more important, I use rsync over ssh to sync media between my Linux box and my android devices. The ssh server will surely be broken if it cannot write anywhere on SD card. Some apps such as keepass will also stop to work.

I would add:
- Removing the SD card to make the copy from the computer is not an option.
- Using some cloud service is not for me (remember Snowden?)
- Rooting is also not for me.
- 4.2.2 works well

☺ You are safe to move on to kitkat already!

☺ You are safe to move on to kitkat already!

• You can use the external SD card in the same way you are using it on Jelly Bean.
The catch, is that you need to use the file manager that is already pre-installed on the firmware from Samsung, in order to be able to write on the external storage.

• The restrictions are only for third party apps, such as other file managers that can no longer write on the external SD card anymore. "Silly Security implementation that many developers are already working on fixes".

But at the same time this same apps can create and manage their own folders... for as long the developer of the app implemented that option on it.

Funny thing is that Samsung is obsessed in creating so many restrictions on the software, and at the same time other manufacturers are making things easier.

I just bought a spare phone last week, the "Moto G LTE KK 4.4.4" and found no restrictions on the external SD card on it... actually they have even implemented a move all media to the external sd card option on it.

I am not sure you understood what I said:

- I use rsync/ssh from my computer to the tablet. As Android has no native ssh server, a third party app is necessary. It will not be able to access all directories (music, video, eBooks, etc...) on KitKat.
- About Android apps, you also did not understand: If I have 3 apps to manage the *same* books, these books are in an unique directory. Meaning these apps need RW access to it. Impossible on KitKat.

Sorry, but your "You are safe to move on to kitkat already!" is not correct: What I do today will not be possible after an update.

The suggestion of using the native file manager to manage the SD is not an option (example: my sync starts automatically twice a week during night without any action from me, and I have my device ready when I wake up).
