You can root AND unlock your bootloader on the current KitKat OTA.

The current OTA has a new root exploit (Towelroot) AND, get this people, YOU CAN UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER! So, for those that didn't take it the first time it was available, or else received a phone that couldn't be unlocked as it had version 9.18 or higher, now is your chance. Do it now or forever hold your peace, because this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance that has just shown up again when we all thought it was gone forever.

So, go here:

[ROOT/UNLOCK] RAZR HD/M build 183 kitkat Towel Root - VZW Droid Razr/Razr Maxx HD Development [XT926] - DroidRzr.com

Get Towelroot and the latest Motopocalypse files from SamuriHL and unlock your bootloader. Do this NOW because I just received an email today about another upcoming soak test, which means, root WILL be lost (Towelroot only works on kernels dated before June 3rd, 2014) which also means, once you lose root, you cannot use Motopocalypse to unlock your phone AND they'll probably re-patch the unlock exploit again.

BTW, if you're worried about warranty, you already will void it once you root and they have a root checker built in, so they CAN tell if you rooted or not, so if you're going to root, you might as well unlock the bootloader too.

Also, many users have reported turning in their unlocked phones and getting a replacement without any charge (as long it's still within the warranty period), so it doesn't hurt to unlock it.

Is this still working? Since I gave my XT926M to my son I haven't paid a lot of attention to updates for the phone; mainly because before I got it the previous owner took the update that locked the bootloader. I know my son would like to get KitKat and I would like to be able to keep the phone updated as long as people are continuing to support it.

If you the current version is 183.46.10.XT926, and you haven't applied the soak OTA (which upgrades it to 183.46.14 nor the latest soak patch, which updates it to 183.46.15), then you will be able to root it via Towelroot and then unlock the bootloader.

Once you've applied the soak and/or the patch to the soak (both of which have not been pushed to the public, but they are available as leaks), then you are SOL and will never be able to root nor unlock the phone. So, it's best that you unlock it now before the soak is made public.

Hi, everyone

I have Droid Razr HD, but not verizon - xt925 - kitKat was pushed only a couple of weeks ago.
Now I have system: 181.46.3.XT925.RCI.en.CA
Android: 4.4.2
Build: KDA20.117-3 as of Oct 15 2014
Kernel: 3.4.42-g2c8ced9-0001-g3e4503c

I tried towelroot:
-by default, 'make it ra1n' says: device not supported
-I tried custom strings:
1337 0 1 0 4 0
1337 1 1 0 4 0
1337 0 1 0 4 1 all the way to 1337 3 1 0 4 1 and also 1337 0 0 0 4 1 ... 1337 3 0 0 4 1
Neither worked - towelroot just hang until I ended up killing it after several minutes. No reboot happened...

What string worked for xt926?

Please help...
