GPS performance on G3

Seriously considering pulling the trigger on a G3, coming from a G2. I love my G2 save for the massive GPS issues I had with the phone.

It was an awful car navigation phone and its GPS only gave me a lock on rare occasions.

Can anyone speak to the GPS performance of the G3 so far?

So far it's excellent.

And that's exactly why I never went with the G2.

Thanks, I have the Spectrum and considering the G3. The Spec is an awful GPS device.

I have no GPS issues with G2. I heard it's limited to some bad hardware units(loose connection to GPS antenna).

I have used GPS for several hours at a time driving for Lyft. It's been flawless so far. Very quick to locate but I hate the annoying notification for when it it is searching for...and then quickly finds your location. Then the notification just stays there. Um...I'd know if I didn't have a lock on my location LG, but thanks for making it crystal clear LOL!

When driving to/from work, I am constantly switching from google maps for traffic, to life260 for spying on family, and waze for speed traps, all while simultaneously streaming pandora over the car's pandora app via BT. I never noticed it not locking on within seconds of opening an app, or switching between them. I have it mounted on my dash.

Would somebody do me a huge favor and test if google maps compass mode works in your car with g3? To get to compass mode in google maps touch the icon once to get your location. Icon turns blue. Touch icon again and icon changes so it sort of looks like a propeller. Supposed to look like a compass needle. Anyway, if this mode works properly screen will rotate to whatever direction you are traveling almost as though in navigation mode without a destination. This mode has never worked properly for me since last year's google maps update.

Yes, that works just fine from sitting in my chair at work. I'm just holding my phone and twirling around in my chair hoping no one notices and thinks I've lost it LOL!

My question is whether google maps compass mode works in a car. It works fine for me anywhere EXCEPT a car. Thanks!

Interesting. Are you connected to BT in the car? I really can't think of why that wouldn't work in a car but would work everywhere else. BT connection and rate of speed are the only real variables there. I'll test in 90 minutes when I leave work...

It works fine running around my office, and I can run pretty fast. So that rules out speed.

No it doesn't work very well! I mean it works but it doesn't point you in the right direction. I was pointing about 80 degrees in the wrong direction. So I tried another phone and that was about 120 degrees off. I damn near looked like I was going backwards. it must have to deal with magnetic interference inside the car. I wasn't using a magnetic mount through anything like that. It's driven by GPS location and compass. I'm sure that feature is probably meant for walking through hiking trail or something.

No, you don't walk fast enough. Used to work great in cars a year ago then google updated maps and ruined the functions

It's bizarre...I totally didn't expect that not to work. I tried I it again later and it was pointing in a totally different location. I'm baffled... It's not the phone though.

I transport vehicles locally for a living so the number one seller for me is a working gps.
So I'm curious how the g3 locks on and how fast or if it had issues or not.

I currently have a s3 and gps is good and fast on it.

I drive for Lyft so I know how important quick GPS lock is. No complaints here. When I'm inside it takes up to about 30 seconds but outside I quickly see the little GPS lock notification as soon as I launch an app that uses GPS. That notification is annoying though cause I have to clear it every time I get in my car

I replace my daily drivers every twelve to eighteen months. While they have always had built-in navigation since the year 2000, I'm finding this year is the first time that my Android flagship's have become viable for the task at hand. When it comes to response time just two stand out from the rest. My LG G3, with my Android 4.4.4 equipped Nexus 5 beating the G3 by the slightest of margins.

My Androids are really put through their paces in my business environment and I must say I'm very impressed and satisfied with ver 4.4.4. While not dramatically different than 4.4.2 or 4.4.3, I put so much time on them I can most certainly notice how smooth, lag free and transition friendly this version is. So much so I've setup a brand new Nexus 5 as a spare. Being mission critical, it's worth the peace of mind.

After a recent road trip, I can say my G3 was clearly the superior navigation tool compared to my wife's GS5. The screens bigger, it's much louder and GPS lock was noticeably faster, not that the GS5 was bad. We also noticed that with waze, the G3 got hazard notifications quicker. Once again, not that the GS5 was particularly bad, but the G3 was better.
