Opera mobile Offroad vs Opera Mini

Some time ago there was Opera classic with Turbo mode that compressed data at the server and saved some of your data plan, and Opera mini that downloaded preconverted OBML versions from the Opera servers and saved a lot of your data plan at the cost of some incompatibility with dynamic websites.

However, now the new Opera mobile FAQ says that Off Road mode, which is what they put in place of Turbo, is "from the Opera Mini browser". Does this mean that OffRoad mode now runs exactly like Mini via OBML, and thus makes Mini effectively obsolete - or is it still just a compression technology like the predecessor Turbo?
