What's your next phone?

Upgraded to a Nexus 5 three weeks ago. Huge improvement over an S3. Finally able to really appreciate project butter on one of the best devices around. The S3, even on AOSP, isn't smooth due the hardware composer not working.

On a side note, tried the S5 for a couple of days. Horrible experience to be honest.

What was the problem with the S5?

TouchWiz. As if TW wasn't already unbearable on the S3/S4, it's even more overwhelming on the S5. Samsung still need to optimise it. The are microlags here and there. On the other hand, I'm loving the smooth transitions on my Nexus 5.

Ok thanks. I'm one of the people that doesn't really get agitated with TW (probably because it's all I've ever used, from my original Captivate to my GS3) so I've never really used a free-range Android system. Hard to see how TW could bog down the GS5 MORE than it bogs down weaker phones though, but maybe you're just saying it isn't optimized for that particular phone.

After 9 months I sold my S3 for close to my purchase price and bought an LG Volt (with Virgin Mobile USA). The poor battery life of the S3 was getting to me - not much point in having a cell phone if it's either plugged in or dead half the time. The Volt gives me comparable features, plus Sprint Spark speeds and much better battery life.

The Volt is my third LG phone (after the Optimus V and Elite), and I think I'll probably stick with either LG or HTC phones in the future. Just my personal preference after having used phones from all three manufacturers. I'll still be sticking my nose in this forum, though, since there's still an S3 in my house and I'm the family tech support :)

yeah. that's funny, I just bought a vm gs3, and the battery life is just as bad as it was on my vzw gs3 after the last update.

I don't think the gs3 can handle 4.4

I think there is a bug in the power savings code. My battery life dropped big time after Kitkat too. On a whim, I disabled the auto-brightness feature and battery life got a lot better. I almost think that it is always checking ambient light instead of only when the screen is on...
