Motorola rumored to be making the next nexus? [Its official]

Looks like the phone is become a little more likely to be my next.

The N4 is having random issues this last week or so where it will just power off and be unresponsive. It takes a while to get it to finally power back on. Of course, I bought the phone on June 30 of 2013, so my 1 year warranty has just expired.

I believe Motorola has better quality than LG, right?

If it's Motorola, that means it's more than likely going to be made by Lenovo then. So it should be good, because Lenovo phones are usually quite nice and solidly built. However 5.9in I think might be just a bit too large for my requirements, basically I like to be able to use a phone one handed, and it should fit into my trousers or jeans pockets comfortably. :)

If the bezel is small enough I think 5.9" could be rad!

Another one who would prefer that the next Google phone - whatever it's called - is not any bigger than the Nexus 5. I had a play with one a month or so back and it was on the limit, size-wise, if not slightly over - for me ;)

As for the fingerprint rumour: that would cool. Reluctant as I am to admit it, it works reasonably well on the missus iP5 and is way more convenient than tapping in a PIN every time. Not sure how secure it is, of course.

Given a choice, I'd probably still opt for the return of the SD card, though ;)

Actually I picked up my old Desire earlier today, and while I'm not sure I'm ready to go all the way back to 3.7" it is a much more convenient size than my current 4.7" phone. So yeah, a slightly smaller Nexus 5 would be an upgrade I'd be more interested in than a larger one.

Well there were people who trained their IP5s to unlock using a nipple print - probably much harder to get hold of than your fingerprints (though may lose out on convenience) ;).

The recently rumored 5.7" to 6.0" LG G3 "Stylus" model is the first new Smartphone / Phablet that I'm extremely excited about.

For well over a year it's been apparent that a 6.0" display is just perfect for my business smartphone, especially now that my LG G3 has offered proof positive that narrow bezels and a spacious display can be packed into a relatively small form factor.

Even more thrilling for this enthusiast is the remote possibility that this same unit could be the basis for Shamu, the rumored Nexus 6.

My Nexus 7 is a wonderful mid sized tablet, which has further enhanced my belief than an even size 6.0" display in a Nexus phone is my dream.

Conversely the bad news is... if Shamu appears with a 6.0" display and other niceties, it'll be so close to perfect for my needs, the buying / testing / evaluating party could come to a screeching halt.

Now THAT would be a sad day... LOL :D

To me, 5" is the max screen size I'd want on a phone.
That's all I really have to say lol :D

I agree 100%, a comment that might surprise you since I am truly excited to finally have an opportunity to buy a 6" model.

Here's my logic (entering dangerous territory LOL). Experience has taught me that as an all purpose smartphone 5" is ideal. But that's for my preferences only. I can understand why some find tiny little iPhones enough for them. That's for their preferences that may be in some cases, heavily influenced by Apples hype machine, or the fact they don't really need a smartphone but must keep up with the current trends.

I can't remember the last time I've only owned and carried just one phone like the greater majority of people. Carrying 2 or more gives me get flexibility in what I carry. But I'm also a very enthusiastic early adopter and lover of all things tech with very few exceptions, like my dislike of smartwatches. So in my case when I ponder what I'd choose if limited to just one phone, after enjoying owning virtually every size currently available, 5" is my pick.

That said, the minimum carry for me is two. One 5" and one 6", now that's the perfect combo to meet my needs and preferences.

Oh and in case you're wondering, that's why men's pants all have two front pockets ha...ha...ha... :D

Well I'd rather Motorola made it than LG.

The 1440p display is not something Google should be pushing,
it's unnecessary, hurts battery life and in certain cases has a huge impact on 3d performance

I think 1080 maybe the optimum for a 5-6 inch screen, for good battery life, 3D performance and image quality, anything higher than that is not really visible or noticeable anyway(retina as Apple calls it), not without strong magnification AFAICT. Not sure what the exact figure is for the pixels not to be invisible to the human eye, around 400 PPI maybe. Most videos that people are likely to be viewing on their phones are 1080p maximum, or possibly only 720p.

One example I can think of is the Oppo Find series, the 7a has a 1080 screen whereas the higher cost 7 has a 1440 screen, but it has to have a larger capacity battery and a faster CPU/GPU to compensate for it, especially for 3D performance.

Yeah for my terrible eyes I can just tell the different between 1080p and 720p with x2 reading glasses on so, for me anyway, 1080 is perfect for a phone

So far my eyes are OK, but nonetheless I'm a huge supporter of 1080p as optimum for the 4.7" ~ 6.3" range of displays.

Any higher than that becomes wasted, yet even though I see them as a drawback, it's obvious why they are being included in phones built presently.

Most impressive when mentioning the Lenovo Z2 is the combo of a 4,000 mAh battery and 6.0" display. Finally a battery of appropriate size.

Yeah I expected 1080p....which is what I would prefer.
Contradicting yesterday's rumor...
Motorola-Shamu-aka-Nexus-6-specs-and-benchmarks.jpg
5.2" 2560x1440 display
Snapdragon 805
3GB RAM
32GB storage
12MP camera

It doesn't get bogged down like the G3 on testing.

Boooooo I wanted 5.9 inch screen! Yeah this rumor is a major contradiction. Now I don't know what to believe. Those specs look insane though. Hopefully we get some better confirmation soon.

Persistent rumors of late place a 5.2" display on the component list for Shamu.

A huge Nexus advocate I've been wishing for a 5.9 or 6.0" display, but understand that it's not likely. Since my N5 is equipped with a wonderful 5.0" (actually 4.95) the incremental increase to 5.2" is a boring one at best.

My Note 3's 5.7" is like a teaser, and a good one at that.

Then we may or may not get Lenovo's Vibe Z2 Pro, a gorgeous 6.0" beauty that's definitely on my MUST buy list. Time will tell :)

From what I've been reading those latest reports could be fake. For starters, when does benchmarks have question marks next to the names? Second its codenamed Shamu for a reason...this thing is going to be big. More than two sources already stated its going to be a phablet close to 5.9 inches. I don't think 5.2 is big enough to be labeled shamu lol. Anyway, everything is rumors for now whether its 5.9 or 5.2. Of course I want that 5.9 lol.
