Amazon App Store Thread - Daily Free Apps

No, these are actual paid apps for free and you have to download them from the Google Play store.

But it's not Google giving them away, right?

Meanwhile in the Amazon [sfx: jungle noises], the FAOTD is "Shuttle+ Music Player", which describes itself as a lightweight music player (I guess 6.3MB is light these days). Only 22 reviews, mostly positive, though it's described as "the same as the stock app, but with adware (Google Mobile Ads)". It sounds like the ads are disabled in the paid app (there's a free app too).

Thanks for the update - I'd have missed it this time and last time if it weren't for this thread!

I see some familiar apps. "Fraction Calculator Plus" is a lot of fun, especially on a tablet. I downloaded "Ultimate Guitar Tabs and Tools" but never used it. "Little Piano (Pro)" was pretty useless, as I recall - certainly not worth the $6 cover price.

For my new phone (a Moto X, so it'll actually run some things), I'm going to grab "Photo Editor +", "MathsApp Graphing Calculator", and the Fraction Calculator (even though it'll be tiny on my phone).

Android Giveaway of the Day

Start with that or go to Google Play and search for App Of The Day. I get a notification on the task bar of the tablet whenever there is a new one. Usually a couple a day.
Well I dont care who is giving them away. Gp or dev. The link is pretty cool. But its not gp. Still could not find anything on gp itself. Gona try few on this though. Thanks for thr link.

the free apps in the Amazon app are mostly rubish. I simply forgot it and just pay for what I really want to use and using the google play store.

I hope there are more people thinking like me. :D
While I would not debate that with anyone. I have downloaded a few that for me are useful. Muscle trigger, universal breathing, Audubon mammals, mini piano. Every once in a while. They have something useful. In between the rubish and the useful ones. I keep the store frozen. Only thaw it when I want to use one of these or to see what todays app is.

So years later I have a need for one of the FAOTD apps I 'bought' and need to install the Amazon store. Does anyone know if I install it if it's going to try to install dozens of apps that I bought or if I can install the Amazon store, select the one app I need and install just that one app w/o having to install anything else? I know not the perfect place to ask but figured you guys would probably know and it's not like it will be a lengthy discussion and could be useful info for others who are watching this thread who may have the same question.

Thanks!

You can easily just install the 1 app you want. Keep an eye on the permissions though. Amazon appstore sometimes has the same app as in Google Play, but with more permissions requested.

What app did you find you needed?

It will only install the apps you choose.

Thanks!

Yeah, permissions don't seem to matter these days. I've got a Redbox app that sends me spam notifications regularly & I unchecked the box to allow notifications as I never need them from this app & it mysteriously checks the box itself and sends another notification hours later. I checked the permissions and I see nothing that would allow it to have control over it's own settings. Amazing.

I digress.

I got a Chromecast last night to stream some video files we have that the Xbox/WMC/PC combo don't like. I can stream them on my phone w/o issue. The plan is to use the full version of Plex that I got to accomplish this via my Chromecast for files that don't play nice w/the Microsoft environment. What I've read is that Plex can do this w/ease so I'm wanting to get it on my phone now to test out. On a side note, I'm amazed by how few apps are Chromecast enabled now that I have one. I figured it would be more by now since it's been out for quite a while in tech terms.

The problem is that the few in the list that I use I could send to my TV using my Xboxes already. YouTube for instance is one that I use to search videos while one plays and then send it to my TVs so doing it on a Chromecast doesn't do me much good. I thought it would be cool if the stock gallery did to do a slideshow for people of like trips & such but it's not an option. I also use Tune In to stream radio stations and that one also doesn't. None of my video players will allow it either. Not a big deal really just surprised there isn't more by now is all. If it doesn't jive with Plex the way I hope it will I will probably just return it as I doubt I'll use it if I can't use it for that purpose. If we can finally stream some MKV's of TV shows & such we have that stutter streaming on the Xbox then it will be worth it's weight in gold to us as we have several TV series that have stalled due to certain MKV's that don't want to cooperate. I even recently did a fresh install of the OS with some other changes to try to combat this issue w/o any luck. $30 and a free Plex app could be the answer to all of our woes.

8/16/14- Free App Of The Day is Servers Ultimate Pro. This could be a worthy add for some of the more tech savvy members.

Dang, I would have grabbed that just to play with it. It sounds like it would be worth the $9 pricetag if you could use the features. Running a website from your phone... now that's a great way to use up your data plan! 1) run website from phone 2) get Slashdotted 3) ??? 4) Profit!

Today's app (oops, in 30 minutes it may be yesterday's) is "Camping Checklist", which lets you pay a buck for someone else's idea of the best camping trip evar.
