This week im going to cook us a custom recovery...lets see if i could pull it off wit my chromebook lol....since this device has potential for a custom rom as well!

I have started decompiling this thing and have found some things...I have an issue though maybe someone could help this phones bootloader I have found thru decompiling the hiddenmenu. Apk is unlocked thru the hiddenmenu however when using am start com.android.hiddenmenu/com.android.hiddenmenu.GlobalHiddenMenuEnable I get error msg on the phone so something on device is stopping it from opening any ideas?

Yes after the device has been rooted it qualifies as being modified.
You can still get updates if you can find a developer to put one together for you..
I think?

Sorry that I'm obviously getting in late on this topic. I'm really new to rooting. I did successfully root my LG Ally a couple of years ago. My boyfriend just bought me this ACE SM-S765C for my birthday yesterday, but since it isn't rooted, I can't use mobile hotspot.

Two question if anyone doesn't mind to throw me some quick info-

If I root the phone, can I download and use one of the free mobile hotspot apps, being on StraightTalk?

Can anyone direct me to step by step directions for rooting this model without breaking it and having to buy a new one before my boyfriend notices?

Search google for xda developers forum and search the forums for your device. I gave the same exact device.
You root it with a tool called Towelroot

Well Brittany as tethering goes you cant on straight talk i tried doing it..i had to stop heres a message i was reading from a former straight talk user......������

i would watch how much you use.i use to teather my laptop with the 60 $unlimited plan
and i had two pre recorded calls threatening disconnection.well i finally went over i guess and
they deactivated my phone with two days of service still remaining.they knew what i was up to
and said they would not restore or credit my service for a few days.i filed a complaint with the
federal trade commision.and the ceos office they contacted me about a month later.i was able to send the phone back for about an 80 percent refund seeing as i had used it for about six months.i felt i should of been notified in writting instead of record msgs.and there tech suppport would not
even let me switch to net ten or traq phone.the phone was useless as a paper wait.i had to recorded
calls from the tech support then i was cut off lol.

Yes you should be able to do what you want with it. You might have to search for a hack to bypass straight talk.
I know they block you from tethering well they try lol. Good luck
