Has anybody tried this on the Note 3?

Geohot's Towelroot will root tons of Android smartphones

I've managed to hold off on "needing" to root my phones over the years, but I've been having that itch to join the bandwagon, since it's not likely I'll be upgrading my device this year (waiting for the foldable phone/tablet Note in 2015).

This method is the easiest I've seen ever, but my only hesitation is wanting to know how exactly to get back to stock, with just as little hassle.

If someone can convince me that there's an "easy" way to go back to stock/non-rooted, then I might just take the plunge.

TIA

Follow the threads on XDA. Install the updated SuperSU (from Chainfire's site - the one in Play hasn't been updated yet). When you want to return to stock, go into Settings on SuperSU and unroot.

(A rooted phone is still stock, it just has the su binary file added to it. The reason it took so long to get root on 4.42 is that su has to be put into a system folder, so you need to be rooted to do it. Finding a way to get temporary root so you can copy the permanent rooting file [su] to the phone is what took so long, since all the old exploits have been patched in 4.4.2.)

I've held off updating to 4.4 for two reasons, the lack of root (which is now fixed) and the fact that a lot of my apps write to the SD card and probably wouldn't be able to in 4.4 (which hasn't been fixed yet - so I'm staying at 4.3. 4.4 doesn't give me anything I'm missing.)

All you need to do to go back on stock/unrooted is just boot into download mode, pick the correct 4.4.2 stock firmware, and flash it onto your device...

Then you'll be back to nonrooted stock

This seriously was the most straight forward and "easy" explanation I have ever received from anyone. Thanks, DC!

Make sure that you choose the correct version of Odin (3.09) and understand how the lettering works

That Picture should help if you aren't familiar with 3.09

The note 3 has a locked bootloader so before you flash a custom recovery you have to unlock the bootloader or you'll hard brick your phone in order to unlock it you have to flash a older bootloader for or phone here's a page for you to read and get the bootloader [Firmware] Engineering Bootloader N900PVPUCN… | Sprint Galaxy Note 3 | XDA Forum if you feel good about that part here's a link on how to get and put twrp on your phone ClockworkMod/TWRP Recoveries | GalaxyNote3Root.com
