Root [Virgin Mobile] VM Android Kitkat push

Custom Roms dont get OTA updates as far as i know, ive never gotten one and ive had the S3 for a year atleast, id have to assume your probly running an altered stock rom in which case no the update will probly just keep appearing unless someone knew of an app or something to block it or until you updated to a newer version of the rom or a totally custom one

Same here....no OTA notices since installing custom rom.

I am going to assume you are on some sort of modified stock rom (a deodexed rom maybe?).

One sure fire way to get rid of it would be back up all your data from the phone. Flash the latest stock tar with Odin.
You would then have to flash a custom recovery, and install a rom if you wish..
Once you upgrade you should not install Modems or older Stock Roms - You may brick. (User made roms are fine)

OR

You can just make sure you have the latest version of your recovery installed, Make a new backup, and install a rom. You can find a nice list here of roms that will work on this phone.

any way to stop the kitkat push from VM? I have a custom Rom / Recovery and whether I try and install it (fails) or select no, it reboots but then comes back to haunt me in the notification area. Thanks..

If you are running a TW based rom then you will keep receiving the update notifications.

Your choices are:

Change to a AOSP rom or Odin the KK 4.4.2 rom.

I want to thank everyone for there input, I have found an easier way to stop the annoying notification. When it comes up in the notification tray, hold down on the icon until you see an "about" tab, click on that, it will open Google Play services, then go to settings and uncheck the box for "notifications" The only drawback is you won't get notifications that Apps need updating without going to the actual "Playstore". This was an easy fix and has worked for over three weeks...
