Moto X+1 pre-release rumor thread

I thought I was sold on the LG G3, but I have been having second thoughts. This phone looks intriguing. My daughter has the Moto X, and I just had to pick up a used Droid Ultra for my wife (her HTC One went for a dip in the toilet), and both of those seem like solid devices. Question is, can my DNA hold out until whenever the X+1 is released.....

There's a lot to like about the G3. It has great specs and I love that they've brought back the removable battery and SD slot that the G2 was missing. But I'm less excited about the 1440p screen, it seems like a gimmick to me, and I'm hearing that a lot of apps are not scaling correctly to the higher resolution. It seems to me that 1080p is pretty much the sweet spot for phones in the 4.5-5.5 inch range. I also prefer the near-stock Android experience of the X (and presumably, the X+1).

Also, Moto radios and Moto build quality are factors for me.

Got to say, I'm a little disappointed in the news for the X+1 that's released so far.

I picked up the S4 last year, before the Moto X was released, and would have switched if it weren't for my contract, and a fear that the sub par hardware would yield poor performance.

In hindsight, the Moto X was a solid performer...provided for a more pure android experience, and dang those wood grain back plates are cool.

After getting some time with a 5" screen....I would have actually welcomed the same size screen the Moto X had, on the X+1....but it looks like the new Moto phone will have a larger screen than the S5 (which is larger than the S4).

Also, I haven't seen a mention of the same active listening feature for the new Moto X+1...has anyone seen anything to indicate this feature will make the new flagship?

If having a smaller screen size, the leaned out version of Android & the active listening features are important to me....would it be crazy to pick up a Moto X at this point?

Would the hardware be capable of running Android L effectively?

I'm hearing a lot of folks are concerned about the larger screen. Coming from a GS4 myself, I'm fine with it, but I hope it has super-thin bezels like the G3. That would make it more acceptable to a larger group of people, I think. But it could end up being bigger, that seems to be the trend all phones are going to. Even Apple. And let's not forget that the original Moto X was a sales disappointment. How long was that factory in Texas open? Not even a year.

I would have to think that active listening will still be there on the X+1. It's one of the signature features of the X that everyone seems to love.

If the G3 had a 1080p screen, it would be perfect. But it doesn't, and I think I just decided to skip it and see what the next round of phones brings us (including the X+1).

That's my same concern as well. I don't think certain apps are ready for such a screen. The G3 is still a long shot but now more interested to see the second half lineup....moto x+1, moto phablet, the next Nexus( if there is one).

More leaks: Leaked Photos Of A Motorola Pre-Production Device: This May Be The Moto X+1
The photos show a device that's very similar to the current Moto X in shape and layout, complete with the signature customized wood back. The tipster says that the silver-colored segmented ring around the phone's sides is made of aluminum, not unlike the HTC One family, though the metal build doesn't extend to the front or back. The phone is claimed to have a 5.1-inch screen (the Moto X is 4.7") with no capacitive buttons, which roughly matches various reports, along with a loudspeaker beneath the screen and opposite the earpiece in the style of the Moto E. The back has a Motorola logo set into the wood in what appears to be plastic, which differs from the wood backs on the Moto X. The two white dots on either side of the circular camera module are claimed to be dual LED flashes. Like the Moto X, there is no MicroSD card slot.

Here's one pic, there are a bunch more in the link:

I hope it has an SD slot, though that's not a dealbreaker for me.

Does this have a micro sd slot? Keep reading conflicting spec speculation. Dead to me without.

If we go by the lack of prelaunch buzz here, not a lot of interest in this device regardless. The lack of prebuzz here makes the Note 4 forum traffic seem huge and it is wimpy traffic level as well.

Hoping this has a micro sd slot. Radios are usually good on Moto devices.

Not sure about the micro SD, I've also seen conflicting reports. I'm surprised by the apparent lack of interest as well. I'm waiting for the reviews (especially Engadget and Anandtech) before buying, but so far this has the potential to be the best fit for me. I passed on the One M8 because of the camera, and passed on the LG G3 because of the impact of that screen (performance and battery life), and the Galaxy S5 was just boring, maybe because I've spent the past two years with a Galaxy S3. Haven't seen any fatal flaws in the X + 1 yet.

Apparently only 16gb internal, so even with a micro sd I would have zero interest.

Less than 11gb of user storage and then L will take another 20% due to needing more space.

If this is 16gb and no sd, Motorola marketing must be truly clueless.

Next!

Almost like google is putting a gun to our heads forcing the use of Google Drive. Its a shame really as I would be very interested in this phone if it came with 32GB and a SD slot.

Very poor Apple-ish move if the 16GB turns out to be real. Would be a big enough turn off for me to forget about Moto altogether.
