Help Random rebooting

I have a htc evo 3d with a very annoying problem. It crashes. Alot. Usually it crashes in the middle of the night and then enters a bootloop. This leads to me just doing a factory reset. Within the past few weeks I have done this about once every two days, and it is really becoming annoying to wake up and find that I get to start my day by resetting my phone. Another problem is that when I try to boot into recovery mode a get a red triangle and exclamation mark, and after pressing volume up +power, I get a message reading "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command". I didnt have this problem until I installed the latest firmware update. Keep in mind that this is an unrooted device, I've tried clearing cache and a factory reset, all just ending with the same problem. I called htc support and was told I'd have to send it in for repairs. I dont want to have to spend money on the repair since my phone is out of warranty. Is there anything I could try to prevent this problem without sending it in? I will try rooting the phone if necessary.

I need to confess that I dont exactly know all the technnical terms and abbreviations when it comes to android. If possible, could you please explain what they mean?

OTA = Over The Air (taking security updates, firmware updates)

CDMA = Non Sim Card

RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility

Anybody else having lots of random reboots? Mine happens when I'm doing stuff and when it's just in my pocket. No consitantcy at all.
4th HTC in last few months. Got the Evo 3d this afternoon. Every time I hit the back button the HTC white screen displays and restarts itself. I've had the phone all of 8 hours...and I'm telling you EVERY time. New phone, nothing loaded on it. Oh and the LED light randomly blinks even when I have no notifications...

If you just got it yesterday day, you should either take it to sprint store and fill them in on it. Or call insurance (if that's how it was replaced) and request another since you got a faulty device.

Was hoping to find some magic fix, not so much luck. And hoping to avoid going back into Sprint for a 5th time this week. What a hassle. Has anyone also noticed the screen on this phone is dull? Especially when lying down flat and looking at it from an angle, the screen practically looks white.

I'm having this "abnormal reset" on my device and it is occurring very often. Someone told me that it has issues with the software and it seems that none of the mobile shops in my area have the necessary program to perform this "change" to the device. I did the factory reset but it still continues to reset. So, if anyone knows and can tell me where to find the program or what should I do with the device, I would be very grateful.

Reset and reboot have different meanings around here. Certainly your device is not factory resetting on its own, so do you mean the device is randomly restarting,,,?

Some questions to answer...

Are you rooted
What carrier
Purchased the phone new? Second hand /refurbished?
Running latest os for this model?
Using a screen protector? Case? Remove both for troubleshooting purposes

Have you attempted a factory hard reset to put the phone back to "out of the box" status?

Running a memory card? Could you be low on storage memory?
If this started prior to or after removing /uninstalling apps, that's a good place to start.

Could be a physical ozzie issue with the buttons on the device. They could be dirty underneath causing issues.

This is a very vary old device so it can be a number of issues... You should take it to someone who has a idea about Android. Doesn't have to be a shop per se....

Yes, the device is randomly restarting and I just found out that when it is charging this restart does no occur, so the phone runs normally when it is charging.
I can install all the apps , the phone is updated so it's running the latest OS. I am not using case or screen protector. I have attempted the hard reset that are in some of the tutorials on YouTube. I have the memory card and it's almost empty, there is enough storage. I bought this phone second hand and I don't know when this problem started because the guy that sold me the phone did not tell me that this restart occurs. I tried to contact many people but it seems that no one knows whats the issue !!

sounds like the phone is physically damaged. could be water damage. there are ways to test if your device has had water damage. its quite possible you were sold a lemon product.

factory resets cure 99.988888% of issues, and since you cant do a full reset and/or after resetting the device still acts up, sounds like physical internal damage.
