My GF also has the S5 and at the same time last night she was at 11 hours (1.5 hours screen) and had I think 67% battery left.

Granted my phone was unplugged a little longer and had more screen time, but this seems crazy! Also her brightness was almost double mine. Unfortuanltly I didn't get any screenshots of her phone last night. Here are mine:

Note how the wifi has been on for 14 hours? It has NEVER been on, I haven't even connected to my house yet, I turned it off as soon as I left Verizon.

I came from an LG L90 to this phone and the LG had way better battery life out of the box and I could go all day, texting, surfing, emailing, calling and only be down 50% on that phone so I guess I need to learn how to adjust things on this phone to get better battery life as I do one little thing for a minute and it eats up 2% right away. I see the thread running about the battery so will look for some tips. Good thing I keep a few portable batteries in my purse for recharging when I am not near the car. Mary

I thought there was a big discussion on these forums about battery life but I guess it was some where else I saw it. You can google improving battery life on the Samsung galaxy s5 and can probably find tips that way. I make sure to keep wifi, location services and Bluetooth off unless I need them and I uninstalled anything that could be that I wasn't going to ever use or disable it and that helped. Really not sure what all I did but it got better after that. Mary

Have you tried in settings > sound. Deselect all the vibrate and sound options.
Also in settings > applications manager > running. You can see what apps are running as a service.
Plus you can uninstall/disable apps you dont use so they don't drain any power.
I use an app call 'all-in one toolbox' which if you click 'boost' you can arrange processes by battery usage. And in the tools section there is the boot speedup area. Better for rooted devices.
There is another i used to use called EZ Task manager, this has all the battery draining functions in one area which can be easily enabled/disabled.

battery life, regardless of phone model, is directly related to how you use the phone, and how many apps you install that keep wanting to access the internet while the phone "is idle".

I have a Galaxy S Fascinate (Verizon) with the whole sum of 267 mB free ram to play with. That phone for the first year I had it was a battery consumer in the worst way. I had to recharge it at least 3 times a day.

then I started managing how and when it could access the internet.
ie, I started manually turning off Wifi and Data unless I actually needed the internet.
OMG, all of a sudden that phone was able to coast along for 48 hours between charges with light use. Mostly telco and some texting.

The same techniques can be used on any phone.

On my current Galaxy S5 I have installed MacroDroid which manages the internet for me automatically w/o me having to think about it.

I created two macros, 1st one turns off Data & WiFi when the screen is locked.

The 2nd macro turns on Data & WiFi when the screen is unlocked.

Just that much and no more, allows my S5 to coast through many days on a charge if the phone is idle and not used. Or, it allows me to go thru a very busy work day and when I need the phone for heavy use, it always has a battery that is almost fully charged.

I quite often go thru busy days and then at 10 PM note the phone has more than 50% battery still available. I put it on the Qi wireless charger anyway and that lets me have another day at work w/o ever thinking about "will it have enough battery?"

What tips?

My battery life has always been pretty good on the S5, but I found an app that actually increases battery life on my S5. The app is Snapdragon Battery Guru. It is written and released by Qualcomm, the builder of the S5's Snapdragon processor, so I'm guessing that they know best how to monitor the processor and adjust settings for best power consumption.

After you download it, it monitors and learns your use of the S5, then, after a few days, it begins managing power consumption. I've been getting about 19% better battery life since installing. It is free in the market.
