Help How to set default storage to SD card

Hi

It would seem that the Verizon S5 does not have the "Internet" app, which is Samsungs stock browser, installed by default. I have found an article here

How to Get Back the Stock Android (AOSP) Browser Without Rooting

which is a method of installing it without rooting, but I'm not sure its worth it. I dont know of a way to make Chrome automatically download to the extsdcard.

I suspect that might be because lately, Google does not really encourage external storage cards. Look at the Nexus devices - no build in external storage.

Not saying it is right, but that's likely the reason why Chrome doesn't provide the option to store to a different location.

Try this out for me though:

• Download and install ES File explorer (others may work too, but I haven't used those)
• Open ES file explorer, and go to settings/directory settings/download path - set that to your SD card
• In settings/apps, clear out the defaults for Chrome app.
• Try to download something. This time, you should get prompted for "what app to use for download", and you should see ES download manager as an option. Select that, and set that as a default

I don't know, but I hope you will get a similar prompt. I have a Nexus device, so can't try it out.

You can also purchase a sandisk ultra micro sd card and download the sandisk memory zone app, an you can transfer music, videos, pics, documents, even back up your entire phones content to your SD card with the memory zone app, free from Google play. It's very useful and the card is for android devices, way easier than anything else, it does it all for you!

You actually need a SanDisk Ultra Micro SDHC or SDXC card, as the card is specifically made for android devices(phones, tablets ect.) I bought mine @ The Source, A 64 GB on sale for $59 but any size will work, once you have the card installed in your phone, all you need to do is download the free app from the play store, its called SanDisk Memory Zone app, it's great as you can set it up to store all your content to the card or add a single picture and even add online storage services such as DropBox, Box ect. to the card as well, to free internal memory, music, photo's, video's, documents, contacts, emails ect, even back up your entire phones content. I wouldn't buy one from ebay as there is lots of fakes, from Sandisks web site (below) there's inks where to buy... also the 2nd link is a youtube video showing the card and app;

To be honest, I don't think it will matter (unless the app somehow has restrictions on what type of card it will work with).

I haven't used the app, but you should be able to install it and see if it does the trick (with your existing card). If it doesn't work, and tells you that it needs that specific type of card, then you can consider buying the other card. But no sense in spending that extra money when the card you have works fine.

I'd also like to see if your regular Sandisk card will work with the zone app from the play store, but your card will not have all the features as the ultra does, it comes in all sizes (128, 64, 32, 16, 8 GB) so your not breaking your bank to purchase one, and it states it's specifically made for the sandisk zone app, please let me know if your able to use the zone app with your regular card. I'm curious. but I opted for a 64 GB model as it was on sale for $59, regular $130

Your Welcome! The other posts (methods) do work as well, but why bother with all the hassle, when the Sandisk ultra micro sd card an zone app does it all for you or you can choose what to move from internal memory to external memory with the zone app, I love it!

I opted for the Sandisk Ultra 64 GB because it was on sale for dirt cheap and it says it "Shoot's and save more high-quality photos and Full HD video on your Android smartphone or tablet" and you can manually set the app up to move photo's, videos, ect to the sd card weekly, or one by one or all files in one shot with a feature called "Optimem" is which I think is really nice. That is why I got this card, the other options is to much hassle. If I were you, I'd get the card as it has more features than the regular one as it's specifically made for android devices! Cheers!

NO, it does NOT do that. To do that, it would require ROOT access, which the app does not have.

What it does is allow you to copy files to the SD card -- which is really no different from the routine file manager apps out there.

yes you can, save pictures, videos, docs automatically, you can set it up weekly to do it for you

or when ever I take a picture or video, I have it set up to save to my 50 GB space of dropbox online storage, which is also on my sandisk utra

with the card, you can add online service storage like dropbox for example to the card, and when ever I snap a picture it automatically goes to dropbox on my card and I also have my dropbox synced to my PC as well, so when ever i take a pic or shoot a video or save a doc, it uploads wirelessly to my PC as well.

I've been doing some reading and found that since the KitKat update, apps are no longer allowed to save files to any folders on the external storage other than that apps private directory. (supposedly a security fix)

For example, if you install a 3rd party camera app...the only place you can save your pictures is to the camera apps private folder. If you uninstall the app, you lose all your pictures.

Not sure if I have all that completely accurate, but what i understand is that having an SD card is far less useful since the kitkat update.

Has anyone heard anything about Android L reverting this change?

I suggest that you get MacroDroid and have it monitor when you download a picture, then have it move/copy that picture to the SD card's MacroDroid folder.

At least it would be automated and a copy on the SD card.
