Hi

Am in a big trouble. Lost lots of valuable pictures, movices nsuch due to following actions:

- tried to update my Xperia Z to 4.4.2;
- update failed, phone gave an error while booting up:
"The software update failed. make sure that your phone is connected to a computer and try again"
- tried to hardreset, hold down power button + vol up for ten seconds;
- no change;
- repaired phone with another update throught the PC companion;

what's now:

- enabled USB-debugging mode;
- rooted my zperia, atleast i think i did it;
- connected phone to PC;
- PC recognizes phone as a portable device;
- not able to use 3rd party software to recover lost data/pictures n such.

:(

thank you for the reply.

no, no i did not backup the device before attempting the update. which was foolish of me. this is why i have been google'in around to find a solution.
checked the settings, switching did not make any difference.
also rooted my phone and tried to use several applications that run directly on phone. what is odd that it could not find any raw data. same time i managed to restore a lot of from microsd with 7-data android recovery enterprise.

sadly that same applications still does not recognize the internal storage to check and rescue some files.

i've kept phone turned off since then to avoid any other data lose.

are these instructions valid?

worth a shot of not?

That's unfortunate; restoring from backup would be he easiest solution.

checked the settings, switching did not make any difference.

If the device is 'stuck' in MTP mode then you'll be unable to access its storage volumes with any program that expects a drive letter assignment, as MTP mode doesn't allow that.

[...] tried to use several applications that run directly on phone. what is odd that it could not find any raw data

That would have been my next suggestion. :(

are these instructions valid?

They are, but depend on being able to access the internal storage volume in Mass Storage Mode, which you're apparently unable to do.

Nothing personal, but you don't seem to be very helpful :).
Was hoping to see / find some manual and or instructions what could i try more.

Tried several apps on droid, several on PC (Dr Fone, REMO, recuva and many more).

Is there a chance that EVERYTHING is LOST and i should accept that i've lost many precious images. :(

Actually that is pretty personal. I've been as helpful as I can be, but I can't perform miracles.

Pretty much so, yes.

Well you did not post any useful ideas, did you? All I did was found out by myself.
Also the data is restored. Tried the instructions I posted on my last thread, so the data was not lost.

Asked some other forums also. Since cellphone has 12GB internal memory and OS takes ~10% of it most of the data shall be restored.

If upcoming users face same difficulties and read my posts then let me know and I can help :)

Whatever you do is do not use the phone if the data is precious for you. Might lose some of it due to overwriting.
