Root new rooter

hello i am slowly learning about "computers" and "programming". like a baby whos first SOUNDS are an indication that he/she is growing- i'm at gurgle gurgle slobber slobber. but i can read and i've a tenuous grip on much of the terminology that I've seen on the site. (Still, every time i hear "kernel" it conjures up an image of sweet corn. but i will get over that.) So just like any 8 year old child who thinks he's conquered his world, I am going to root my Lg escape (BTW I'm 45). I'm not gonna let common sense stop me from attempting this but i think my profound ignorance will for once be a virtue in my endeavour. Any help will be appreciated, and well placed insults- as long as they are funny- will be ingested also. Well here goes nothing....

That looks like good reading, but not sure what you would do with sdk, at this point.

Look at that titanium backup app, the pay version allows you to freeze apps, like bloatware, then if you have no trouble, you can delete them.

I didn't see where you can get a recovery yet, to make a backup. Don't really want to mess around too much without a good backup saved.

I don't see any roms yet either.

You might have to do a search to see what pops up. It looks like you are sort of ahead of the curve right now, if I am understanding correctly.

Look around in some of the atr forums, but don't dl their roms, you need phone specific stuff. Just get an idea of what is going on. some reading in that thread I gave you too, about what it means to have root.

Looks like you are going to have to wait for the world to catch up with you!

ok well last night i managed to get busybox pro installed, astro pro, and titanium pro all to the phone. Of course Superuser SU was the first installation (LG escape 4.1.2). Many thanks to Dustwun77 for holding my hand. Today (and I have ALL day to learn) i want to get more necessary apps to support the root and i need some guidance on what my priorities are. Freezing bloatware is not high on my list at this point, although it is a main goal along with battery efficiency and general education of phones and computers.

Mr. Moderator, if its not too much trouble, would you move this post to a different forum where i can get interaction and guidance? I know its time to leave the womb of introductions and journey out into that hard, cold world of big boy forums. so just shove me into the right pool and I'll learn to swim from there.

ok i got a little crazy and got rid of titanium and installed root app delete. started getting rid of anything that i didnt recognize and the app didnt say to keep. Well, the luck of the profoundly ignorant saved me today because about half the bloatware is now gone and the phone still functions properly as far as i can tell. There is still a bunch of crap on the phone but maybe i will learn how to put my own gui (is that what its called?) if i dont kill the phone or get taken away by the ATT Gestapo. It felt really liberating getting rid of that crap, especially when vi actually recognized the programs i was chucking! now that I've sobered up i need to LEARN some more and make a Nandroid backup before I go on another app blasting spree. Can somebody tell me where do i go from here?

hello all! I have a brand new (from ATT store) LG Escape P870
JB 4.1.2 out of the box
baseband - M8960A-AAAANAZM-1.0.019008
kernel - 3.4.0
build-JZ054K
software - P87020D
ATT 2year contract

I have a few posts under my brand so I'll sum up my situation by saying I have succeeded in installing SuperuserSU Busybox pro, Astro Pro and Root App Delete. I have been reading as much as possible on this site and XDA developers. My goals are to get rid of all the Att bloatware and to lower battery usage. I also am slowly learning about programming (phones anyway). I like to download and play mp3s and occasionally use the phone as my bring along computer, also i like talk to text. I am not a gamer nor am i interested in that (at this point) I am also interested in Linux although im new to that world too. I need to know where i go from here to learn about my phone and to install the proper apps while also making backups for the inevitable problems i will encounter. My next project is to make a Nandroid backup. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

ALWAYS make a nandroid backup before doing anything fancy to the phone. Especially when deleting system files! It's a snapshot of the phone's current state as it is at that moment. If something goes wrong, just wipe the phone and restore the nandroid.

Nandroid is made in Recovery. Whatever custom recovery you use, there should be a backup option. Stock recovery that comes with the phone will almost never have a backup function.

:)

I havent put a recovery app on the phone. I am open to suggestions.

unfortunately i have not come across any custom recoveries for your phone. you picked a phone that does not have much in the way of a development community. no devs=no recovery.

and personally i would use titanium backup to freeze stuff first as deleting some of the system apps can cuz your phone to not work properly and with no recovery you will have not have the ability to fix it.....so be careful.

Hi guys,

I have a LG Escape P870, unlocked, but still the ATT version with all of the bloatware.

Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: M8960A-AAAANAZM-1.0.019008
Kernel version: 3.4.0
Build Number: JZ054K
Software version: P87020d

I had it unlocked after moving to Malaysia earlier this year.

The phone is LTE enabled, but I can only get EDGE data speed on the Escape (2.5G), even though my Micro SIM gets LTE and 3G if I slot the SIM into other devices.

Another problem I am facing is that I can't enable the wireless hotspot (when trying to enable the hotspot, the following message is displayed: "Authentication was unsuccessful. There is a temporary network problem that prevents the enablement of the Mobile Hotspot function. Please retry later."). It is totally ridiculous that ATT blocks this functionality, given that I am now using the phone in Malaysia with a local micro SIM. Money-grabbing mentality, as usual.

Any idea how I can get LTE speed and how I can enable the wireless hotspot functionality on the local Malaysia network? Will I need to root the phone and get rid of all of the ATT bloatware?
