I'm getting this error when trying to update my system on my Samsung Galaxy Grand GT-I9082.

My current version is 4.1.2 and I want to update to 4.2.2, but I keep getting that error. I tried wiping the cache, but this did not solve my issue.

My device has never been rooted. I bought my phone new and packaged and I did not root it. The status says that it's custom and I can't figure out how to solve this. I've read around that removing the SD card and updating works, but I don't have a SD card in my phone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

What methods are you trying to use to update? OTA or odin or Kies? A rooted phone usually days status "modified" not Custom. Could you be trying to install the wrong rom/update for your carrier or is it an int. Version?

Seeing that I'm a total beginner, I don't know what I'm trying to use to update. I go to the Settings -> About Device -> Software Update -> Update; Then I get the error I mentioned in the first post.

Maybe it's worth mentioning that I did a "Factory Data Reset" once.

Hi again.

For an un rooted phone to show a custom status is not right. You phone may have a corrupt system file which is triggering the custom status. In that state you will not be able to do an ota (over the air) update as you have been trying to do. Your problem is not unique but is quite rare.

You should however be able to update using odin. There are lots of guides to this on the Web but have a look at this one which is quite clear. Read and understand before doing anything! Ask if you are not sure.

Thank you firstly for your advice. I removed the Sim card and rebooted and checked for updates via WiFi and it worked again as it should. I also have never rooted this phone but I worked out how this might have happened. I had put my wifes sim card in one day which had been in an Apple iphone and I figured that may have caused the problem. Once I shut down again and put my sim back it all works fine even with my sim in. Thanks again for helping fix this annoying issue.
