Does dock mode work on the S5? I made some dock cables for my S4 that would put the phone in dock mode and launch a specific app. With the S5 it does not recognize the dock mode. i was wondering if the resistance is different, the pins are different, or if the S5 does not even support the dock mode.

Any insight would be appreciated. Otherwise i might try a few different resistance values on the same pins to see if i can get it to dock.

According to iBolt and others, Samsung has removed the dock feature from the S5.

On previous phones, plugging in a cable that has the right pins crossed for dock mode activates dock mode. That cable no longer works on the newer Samsungs and according to iBolt, there's no way to activate the dock mode from the connector any more.

Further more, if you manually activate "car mode" it starts up Samsungs dedicated car mode app which doesn't have clearable defaults so you can't set and it doesn't even ask which app to use by default when activating car mode. i.e. they're preventing third party apps being used in car mode.

This is anti competitive and I suspect illegal.

I drive 40K miles a year and this feature is absolute required, so unless something pops up in the next few days to solve this, I'm going to send the S5 back and keep my S4.

I have been using Car Home Ultra for the last month with no problems.

It works, yes, and it is a great app. If you had any of the other Galaxy S phones you would know that when you connected a cable with a certain resistance across 2 pins it would put the phone in "Dock" or "Multimedia" mode automatically. This would launch my Car Home Ultra for me, turn on BT and GPS, turn the volume all the way up, and a few other things. It was a great feature, and this allowed audio to come out the USB port instead of just the headphone jack, which made connecting it in your car a little easier.

I used this everyday with all of my other GS phones, now i do not use it as much. No point of the Car Home Ultra now.

That just means you were never using it as intended and taking advantage of the app as intended.

For instance, if you hit the home button while in dock mode whether you're in the stock launcher or an app, Car Home Ultra will be displayed regardless of where you were when you hit the home button. This is a core and key part of how it works. Dock mode used to allow association of any app. While in dock mode, the associated app becomes the launcher when either it starts or you press the home key.

Now if someone wrote an app similar to Home2Shortcut which intercepts the home key and allows you to launch any app but instead keyed it off an NFC tag you stick on the back of your dock, then this problem could be solved.

The creators of CarHomeUltra could fix this as long as they could detect the NFC tag, launch the app, and then redirect each time you press the home key.

Any luck on this issue? I bought a couple cables that split the USB 3.0 into usb for charging, and aux audio 1/8 stereo plug. No audio.... These cables are available everywhere, claiming they work for the S5... The vender hasn't been much help. Is there a custom ROM to turn on analog audio "line-out" from the USB on the Galaxy S5? How could Samsung just stop supporting this very nice feature. Bluetooth audio sucks by comparison. Especially with an aftermarket adapter that I would be forced to use.

Hi guys, I am from iBOLT so I can bring some clarity to this issue. On S3, S4 & Note 2 &3 Samsung featured "analogue audio out" through the microUSB connector. Of course you had to have the right cable that put the phone into "dock mode" which triggered this functionality. However, in their infinite wisdom Samsung decided to remove this permanently on Galaxy S5, Note 4 & future handsets. This was unbelievable as almost all no car between 2004-2011 features A2DP Bluetooth chip set that allows for sound from Apps to be transmitted via Bluetooth, although many have Bluetooth hands-free built in and the aux-in port. Even some newer cars do not include the A2DP, only in the "navigation/premium package" that dealers. However, we have finally worked with vendors to come up with a great solution.

Our solution is the "Bluetooth streamer charger", see attached pic and link below. This is a 2.1 Amp USB car charger (a must on the S5 & Notes) with built-in Bluetooth receiver and a curly cord with aux-out. Simply plug the charger into the 12 Volt outlet and the aux curly cable into your aux-in port. Pair with your Android phone. Select "media only" (assuming you have another hands-free solution for phone calls) and from this point your App sounds (GPS, Music etc) the Bluetooth charger will automatically connect with your phone when you turn the ignition on and it will stream your music etc into the car speakers. For charging, just plug a standard charging cable into the car charger.

This concept is a great solution since the Bluetooth receiver is built-into the car charger it never needs separate charging. If you plug it into a power outlet that starts and stops with ignition (most but not all does this) it will also connect every time you step into the car.

We just activated a "Charging kit" today on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-miniPro...0LZZRCXW&pebp=1422703957006&peasin=B00LZZRCXW but we also have the BT Charger by itself for $29.95. http://www.amazon.com/iBOLT-Charge-...id=1422716930&sr=8-1&keywords=ibolt+bluetooth Let me know if this solves the problem? It should... I personally use it every day in my 2008 BMW X5 that does not have Audio streaming. Ask any questions and I'll try to answer...

This sounds intriguing. I just ordered a Blueant Ribbon... But I have 2 vehicles. I tried a cheap bluetooth adapter before. The audio was a step below the wired solution, and it always was a pain to connect. I had to turn off my phones bluetooth each time, and then it would connect. I am trying the Blueant because it as the aptx codec that is supposed to be very hq audio. My cheapo bluetooth died after a couple of weeks use. lol Do you know how the quality compares, and if steps were taken to equal a wired solutions quality of sound? I too have a BMW, a 2008 335i. This switches off the 12v outlet with ignition. So yours will power on and connect to your phone without any fussing on the S5 phone? My other vehicle is a truck with constant on 12v outlets. I'm not opposed to rewiring either one of those to switched/non switched to get an auto connect. Just trying to make this seamless and have good quality sound. I don't mind plugging in a charger. But plugging in 2 things, and having 2 wires snaking around was not what I wanted. But sound quality would trump both of those. Still can't believe they would take away the beautiful line-out usb we had. :(
