Dear BoA, I have my cc linked to my Google Wallet and it works. Not everyone likes or has Apple. Thanks for the useless email spam.

Be sure to CONTACT BofA and tell them what you've told us. (They're my bank, too, by the way.) It's only when companies hear from disgruntled customers--or potential customers--that they realize they're screwing up. If no one complains, they'll assume they're right, Apple really is the be-all and end-all of the universe.

I actually am going to.

I complained every time I went to my other bank to make a deposit, they took sooooooo long to get snap/deposit going.

I'm really not an Apple hater (OK, yes I am) but I am just so sick of the press they get. It's everywhere and really just buggin' me! Stop it, they just aren't the inventors of everything. Ugh. :)

Maybe they bribe all these companies to make a big deal out of it. Or maybe our society is so screwed up that we just idolize Apple as the only leaders of the Tech industry, and are blind to see that Google and Elon Musk are much bigger innovators than the new Apple will ever be.

Basically, if it aint about us, we don't care. That's how [we] think these days.

Android One may be one of the most important, and possibly the best ideas ever. Though none of us are ever probably going to use a Android One device, the 5 billion other people who can't afford, or care for a new phone with some stupid NFC, or wireless charging or whatever stupid things we don't need are on there. If 5 billion people had access to the internet, they may be able to drown out the stupidity in many of the people who already have access to the internet, and who are spoiled by it.

People treat iPhone [and android, we aren't perfect either] like it's a religion. The truth of the matter is, all our devices do 99% of the same thing. Make phone calls, text, video chat, brows web, watch videos, take a note, make a shopping list, take a picture, blah blah blah.

No company can innovate if everyone is going to fight about it's competitors. It's stupid.

Guess what e-mail I just received from BofA?

(And, yes, I am going to complain, even though I don't actually use Google Wallet.)

This is a very good point. There are a lot of terms, such as "Kleenex," that people [here in the US, anyway] use in a generic sense to refer to a product, not a brand.

I heard at London Heathrow and Beijing Capital airports this week, security, "Remove your laptops, ipads and cameras from your bags.". Think it happens just about everywhere now, "ipad" is a generic name for any type of tablet computer.

That's the problem. That's why I lose respect for Apple. Maybe it's because they probably bribe these companies billions of dollars to make them accept it. That's always how it is.

They bribe companies with billions of dollars? Or enter a business agreement with the companies? How is it bribing?

Nevertheless, when I was still on Android many people said that for mobile NFC payments to take off it would need Apple to get involved. This is common. If not for Apple originally doing what they call "Retina" display other manufacturers wouldn't push the limits of quality screens like they do now. We could go on and on about things that Apple starts and then everyone tries to pick up , also on the flip side some can be said about the other way around also.

I think as consumers we are the true beneficiary of things like this. Who cares which company comes out with what first? I want Android and Apple to keep going back and forth on doing things better. It means I will continue to have a better product in my hand no matter which road I take.

By the way... I'm a Wells Fargo banker and have received a couple of emails notifying me of Apple Pay and i'm STOKED :D:D:D:smokingsomb::p:p:p

I won't be stoked until I can use my Android. But I do look forward to using TaP at more stores.

This. I won't ever buy an Apple product, as they really are not my thing. But I don't want them to roll over and give up. Where's the sport in that? We need competition. I'll be honest. I want a fingerprint scanner now. I'm also happy for my friends who will now get to experience the joy of tap and pay(it's effing awesome, btw. The reaction I've been getting from cashiers is epic too, but that will go away once it matures).

Hopefully Apple Pay takes off quick. I want to use my phone at places other than McDonalds and Chevron, lol. But it might take another product cycle, as you'll still have at least half of iPhone users still using a prior gen iPhone without NFC.

I totally agree... back and forth ... helping to better the other guys idea.
that is how it should go.

but apple.. will copy... patent it...then sue the originator to stop using that patent. using their deep pockets to bully the originator in court till they are bankrupt. killing off innovators.

then they use marketing to alter reality and make the populace believe apple was the innovator of the idea.. and they were wronged by others. apple is a marketing&patent company.

yes.. yes... I hate apple. can you tell?

sooooo why don't the first company that does it patent it?

I get it, you dislike Apple. what you described happens all day every day with 1000 other companies.

So you are OK if...

You spent time and money on an invention / product. Sell it.. Make a living with it.

But I copy it.. Change it a little.
Get a patent that is so general and wide.. That it can stop you.
Sue you.. Drain your resources.
Put you out of business.
Market it so that I am hailed as the inventor of it.

You would just chalk it up to.. Doing good business as usual. You should have been more careful of better inventors / business men like me. All your fault.. Not mine

Right?

I don't mind if a merchant uses Square. I won't use my phone to pay. I don't have anything personal on the phone. The accounting program I use doesn't list the bank or the credit card, just amounts. The CC# and bank are not on the phone. I usually disable NFC anyway. I know you have to be close, but still.

As long as cash is declared legal tender (minus pennies) if the store bugs me I'll use a large bill and make the cashier count it back.

Palm could have done that with IR. You just had to be in range, not touching.

If this catches on, I'll give you odds that the general public will call it whatever Apple names it - even if Android, Microsoft hold the patent. The i name is catchy and easy to say.
