Hey folks,

I traded in my galaxy s4 for the 5 about three weeks ago. It seems that "Android System" is always the highest battery drain, even over the screen, no matter what. I don't remember the 4 being like that. I charged my phone to 100%, then unplugged and let it sit unused while I slept overnight. It lost 6% in 6 hours. So a percent an hour. That seems a little high to me. Is it, or is that normal?

I've disabled all the samsung bloatware, turned off or disabled anything I don't use. I do leave location, wifi, and bluetooth on all the time, always have.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Not at all, that's completely normal. In fact 1% per hour is pretty good if you keep bluetooth, location and wifi on all the time. Turn those off when you sleep it will help.

The S5 has superior tech compared to the S4 and consumes more battery power, especially when the larger screen is on.

1% an hour is what I get with the same scenario. I have only turned off E-mail sync because I don't really use e-mail.. I leave WiFi, BT, Location services and data all on 24/7.. never had an issue.. Love my S5

I leave GPS ON in High Accuracy Mode. It does not cost anything EXCEPT when an app calls for a geo location. So, if the phone is idling, and no apps are in use, the GPS receiver is in standby mode.

I tried 3 different battery monitoring apps, and they were all in agreement that turning ON the GPS will cost about 20-15 minutes of battery life. For me, this is not worth getting upset about.

IF, I leave the Data/WiFi ON all the time, my phone uses something like 1%-2% per hour. It has been so long since I did that though because I have taken to using MacroDroid to turn off the internet when the phone is idle.

The phone only uses about 8% battery per 24 hours IF it is idle and unused.

When I unlock the screen, MD turns the internet ON and everything works just like it is supposed to. Only, I have lots of battery power all day long.

Today, fer instance, I have used the phone on and off to look at maps, read the world news reports, email, SMS+pictures and at this point in time, the phone is showing 81% for 19H, 54M off charge.
