Verizon + Samsung Rebate

I tried to pre-order the N4 with a trade in yesterday and was advised by my local store that a memo came out stating Verizon "was not participating in the Samsung Rebate". I ended up calling the customer service number and after being placed on hold for an extended time was read the same memo. I was emailed a link to the Samsung rebate page and instructed to deal directly with them. I emailed Samsung and posed the question to them and their response was to email me a link back to the same page.....customer service now days is awesome!

This seems odd since I just talked to them last week with a question about a trade in.

Anyone else experience this? or better yet, if you pre-ordered planning on taking advantage of the rebate, you better look into this before aggravation.

I'm going to be a pain in the neck, but I like things very clear. (sorry in advance)

So, since I'm already on the Edge program, I'm going to pay off the balance of my N3 so my wife can have it and then Edge into the N4.

Simultaneously, I can hand in an old S3 that's been lying around to show Samsung I traded in a phone.

I can then contact Samsung with a proof of purchase as well as a proof of trading in a working phone and I will receive a rebate or roughly $190?

Does this sound like the plan I should take. Again, sorry for the ignorance, but I'd love to save a few bucks if I can. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Should have mentioned I'll be doing these transactions in store.

Will this work with the edge program? I am at the 50% point to trade in my note 3 and "edge up" I also have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus that is worth a whopping $12.00 in trade in cash (meets the minimum $10.00) Can I trade in the Nexus as an additional phone to get the rebate if I pre-order? I just want to make sure I can do this before I pre-order.

I went to the store yesterday as well as called customer service. I was advised they will NOT accept a trade in towards the Note 4.....so how do I participate in the program? Verizon ' s exact words were " you must deal with Samsung directly, we have opted not to participate".

Since a trade in is part of the rebate, how does one apply for the rebate? This is a new memo from Verizon, just came out this week according to rep. I spoke to.

Verizon is really starting to piss me off, they make everything so much harder:mad: I have talked to two people at the Verizon 800 number today and both were could not even answer basic questions. I guess I can try calling my local store again and asking about this to see what they say. I will probably go by there tomorrow but it would be helpful to know before I waste any time driving there. If I can't get the trade in rebate I am not preordering.

Correct. Though Samsung should have done a much better job communicating, Verizon is not sponsoring this offer- Samsung is. The only thing Verizon does is take your trade so you have the documents Samsung needs for YOU to submit for the offer. That is it.

Point here is the trade rebate if between you and Samsung.

Yes the Samsung offer is intended for those who pre-order the Note 4.

Maybe I'm just slow on the pick up here....I realize Samsung is sponsoring the actual rebate, but part of the rebate is to trade a device into Verizon. If Verizon will not accept a trade in then how do you participate? I have gone through the upgrade process online as well as in the store and I get a message stating "no trade in available for this device". This is the same message received from customer service 800 number as well.

Advise from someone who has actually successfully traded a device towards the Note 4 would be much more helpful than allot of people who read the same rebate form as I did; I don't need an interpretation of the details, as my reading skills are up to par.

I didn't order online because it was quoting me a higher monthly payment and I didn't order on the phone because I lacked a whole lot of confidence in the people I spoke to. So I went to the local store and I am glad I did because there was a Florida number only deal to get 15 gb instead of the 10 gb I have for the same price. She took my trade and I now have 2 receipts, one for the pre-order and one for the trade in for my GNEX which they gave me $12.00 for. I started filling out the rebate but it looks like I have to wait to get the phone to finish it. Hope it works!

My local Verizon store took my trade, she said it was a trade-in but I got a separate receipt for it so I don't know, it was then applied to my account. I guess I won't know if it works until I get my phone so that I can finish the rebate process. Hopefully Samsung will honor it this way...

How to Use Guide

I got tired of messing with Verizon, who in my opinion shot themselves in the foot making this process so difficult. I went to Best Buy and got a $200 gift card for the trade in that can applied back to the Note 4 purchase. Also to get business away from the individual carrier stores, Best Buy gives $25 off the phone just for purchasing from them.

Nothing has to be applied to your Verizon account. Just send in the receipt for the trade in from Verizon to Samsung along with the info from your note 4 when you get it.

I just had them apply it to my account to cover some of the taxes on the new phone, it was a Verizon gift card and I didn't want to use it to buy their accessories, they are overpriced.

Channeling my best/worst Steve Martin, "Well excuuuuusee meeeeee!" :)

Added: Tomorrow should begin the offer-gnashing of teeth due to the epic confusion Samsung has facilitated.

It's not as complicated as it appears. Here's the long and short of what I've done as I'm on verizon too.

1 - Pre-ordered phone at store (or online if you want). I'm paying full retail to keep my unlimited data plan. Paid $699 plus taxes ($759 total). I have a receipt that says I pre-ordered on Oct 8th. Verizon buyers must preorder by Oct 22 ( Oct 16 for all other carriers).

2 - I bought cheap $20 smartphone on eBay. Traded cheap phone in at Verizon for $21. Verizon applies $21 to my phone bill as requested. I'm given a trade-in receipt showing I traded in a phone for $21.

3 - After Oct 23, I'll upload copy of the pre-order receipt (for $759) and trade-in receipt (for $21) plus other required info. Samsung will then send me the difference between $200 and my trade in of $21. So, I get back $179 from Samsung.

This is a Samsung promotion. That's why many carriers stores will have no idea what you are talking about.

Thing to note is that you do not have to trade in your phone at Verizon. You can trade in at Sprint, T-Mobile, ATT, Amazon, Gazelle or Best Buy or wherever. The trade in value of your phone MUST be $10 or more. If it's $9 or less then you do not get a rebate from Samsung. So if Verizon will not accept your trade in, try other places. And if they don't either, then find a phone on ebay or craigslist that qualifies. That's what I did. Just because you have a used phone does not mean it qualifies. All carriers website can tell you what phones they accept for trade-in and the value. If it says "no trade in available for this device" then they don't want your phone. Look for a phone that qualifies. Must be worth $10 for the Samsung promo.

Additionally, I will sell my current Galaxy Note 2 once I receive my GN4. Let's say I get $190 for it on craigslist. That's more money for me. So my GN4 cost will be $759 + $20 - $21 - $179 - $190 = $380. Some people are trading in their one or two year old current phone. Why do that? If I did then Verizon pays me $118 for my GN2 and Samsung sends me $82. But then that's $759 - $200 for a phone cost of $559 vs $380 when I bought and traded in a used eBay phone.

The $200 rebate is free money. Take advantage of it.

Btw, going thru Best Buy is a different issue as you get instant $200 with any trade in. Then you cannot do Samsung promo if Best Buy gives you $200. But Best Buy will not sell me an off contract phone unless I upgrade or sign a new 2 yr contract. They don't sell full retail off contract so I had to go buy at verizon (or Amazon too). If you are not on the grandfathered unlimited plan and are renewing then you could get the N4 for basically free with the scenario above.
