Help Nexus 6 will work on all major US carriers

Rx,

just so im clear (im late to the party here),

if I purchase a nexus 6 from the carrier i use which is sprint, are you saying it will have not sprint bloat on it?

im thinking of getting the nexus 6 to go with the nex 9 since android L is such a radical new thing (in my eyes), but i would like to have it as vanilla as possible.

OR, if i grab this phone direct from google, i ASSume it will be as vanilla as they come and I can then walk right in the sprint door and activate it with no issue?

so educate me kind sir.

They way I see it: when the LTE N7 came out you could put an Verizon SIM from your phone andyou are good to go. Seeing as there is only one US version most are thinking you could buy the phone from Google and just slap whatever carrier SIM you have in it and go on about your day. But, none of this has been specified as of yet.

While the question wasn't directed at me, here's what I think... :) based on how the nexus 5 was handled, the answer to your questions is yes and yes*.
The N5, even when purchased from sprint had no Sprint bloat on it.

You can buy N5 from Google and sprint will activate it for you
2 things to note :
  1. With the N5 release, Google did not include a SIM for Sprint and asked users to go to Sprint. Sprint stores had almost no stock for a few weeks, and caused issues because of that.
  2. The 2nd issue was that for the first few days after the N5 was released, Sprint didn't have the 32GB version's ESN in their system and couldn't activate those. That was fixed in a few days

Assuming things go the way they did with the nexus 5, there were no differences on the phones sold through Sprint and the play store.

There were early issues using a play store bought phone on the network, as well as using sprint purchased phones on a sprint mnvo like ting. They seemed to lock it to post paid on their network

There are multiple levels of device lockdown.

- based on different hardware - this is not possible as its one model for all US carriers
- locking the phone so it won't activate on another network - this is possible
- locking down the phone via radios, baseband, or RIL updates - this is also possible

CDMA needs proprietary code from carriers, thus its still possible for Verizon/Sprint to block activations of phones based on IMEI etc, like they have done in the past. This is not possible for an unlocked Play Store GSM version - you can add any activated SIM and it will work, guaranteed.

Summary - Verizon still has ways of controlling updates for the phone and spoiling the party. I hope this doesn't happen.

VERIZON!?!?! NEXUS?!!!

WOOOOWWOOOTT!!!!

Ok, sold. My upgrade is November, right on time. :D

I loved my GNex. Everything but the battery life. Been lusting for a N3 or N4 for a long time, but this looks like everything the Note can do (Except for the Pen - :( ) but with open system, quick updates and front speakers. As a side note, I had a Moto OG Droid, and the wife is currently running the Moto X (OG) - the Moto builds seem much higher quality than Samsung

If there is no Verizon Bloat and the Nexus 6 will actually work as a phone (Gnex) then I will most likely buy one
