Coming from Galaxy S4

Hi Everyone.

Anybody here come from the Galaxy S4? I'm seriously considering making the switch. The other device I'm looking at is the HTC One M8. I'm a VZ customer, but would be purchasing through Ebay or Swappa.

On paper, both the G3 and M8 phones would be improvements in most or all aspects compared to my S4, but I'd really love to hear about battery life (I'm a moderate to heavy user--streaming music, email, light gaming) and camera.

Looking for feedback from anyone that has had these devices for a few months now and puts them through their paces.

I came from the S3. So i have a slightly larger jump. I am satisfied with battery performance. It of course is more sensitive to screen on time. I find that the G3 has great standby time, but when using the screen you can get it down low quickly if not careful. My wife took no less than 320 pictures at a tennis match of mine and left the battery from 100 to 24%. This was over 2 hours pretty much constant picture taking, with google+ backup running (which did not catch up until after I plugged it back in in the car). That was the most extreme example I can think of.

I definitely last a day for me, I am not a heavy talker or texter, mostly games internet searching, news/twitter/reddit reading, camera, pandora, some video watching/streaming.

I think the big questions between m8 and g3 is screen/camera vs speaker sound/metal design. I don't use the speaker as often as I would prefer the OIS and screen, and I generally use cases.

I have held my g3 and my nephews m8 side by side. I prefer the sleeker low bezel look. The plastic of the g3 is slippery though, so case is warranted.

I'm coming from s4 i'm a light to moderate user i dont play games that much but i am a heavy lte, tethering & gps user due to my work. After whole day at work i still have 20%-30% battery life, back then on my s4 i need to charge by using my external batt.

I can't stress enough how valuable it it's having a phone with a swappable battery. After buying the battery kit for my note 2, I'll never go back to a fixed battery. Leave all the radios on, brightness at 90%, whatever you want to do. It takes less than a minute to go from dead to full. Also, when the battery capacity starts to degrade on the m8, you're stuck with it. I still have a galaxy s3 and a galaxy nexus that are kept alive by their ability to replace the batteries.

Thanks, I may wait until the Note 4 price drops a little after the holidays and pick up one of those bad boys. was trying to get away from touch wiz, but nova launcher does the trick. Otherwise the G3 it is.

Note 4 dropping price? Doubtful that will happen any time soon..

Came from GS4 to G3.. Only thing that bothers me is the heat it creates when I use Maps. GS4 had the same issue as well..

I switched from Samsung S4 to LG G3.
I hated S4.
I love G3.

BTW, G3 can shoot video in UHD format, 3840x2160.

definitely true about the overheating. the one time i needed to use the gps for driving, i thought my GS4 was going to explode (after an hour of use).

i am still unsure how anyone can have overheating or screen-on issues with the G3. i can be reading emails, browsing on Chrome for an hour and only lose 2-3%. my phone never has gotten hot, even though all previous Android devices i had (especially the Galaxy S3 and S4) would just run hot enough in standby to burn holes in my pocket (well it felt that hot)

i have a dedicated GPS for that. since every attempt at using Maps or Google Now tends to place me around 50-100 miles from my actual position i've had no interest in using their Navigation. the GPS just sucks on Android phones. i hear iPhones are just as bad. When i get home it thinks i'm in Henderson or Rockport, and tells me i'm 20 or 30 miles from home despite having been there already!

weird, I've used Google nav for years and found it extremely accurate (within feet).

I use GPS on my phone with "running" apps all the time and its accurate enough to show whether I'm on the sidewalk or not.
