is there a personal assistant app like siri for android?

Can you elaborate?

I use OK Google on a daily basis. Things like, Navigate To:, Set Reminder:, What is:, Set Alarm, Call: <person in address book>.

Google Now gives me flight info, shipping information for packages, sports scores and stock updates, weather info, local events, TV listings.

What are you missing?

Works amazing for me. I use it so many times a day for work. Scheduling, reminders (even location based for when I get home or work or a specific place), send texts, make calls, and emails. It automatically gives my flight info, weather info, scores, traffic updates and news stories I've been following.

You should go in YouTube or something and look through all the commands and familiarize yourself with google now. I use the Google Now Launcher as well.

Install Commander, it works with Google now. This will give you what you want.

anytime i use ok google and ask it to search something, it always says "can't load search results" when it tries to search after my voice command. my internet is on. is there some option i need to turn on to make these results load? what am i missing?

I've had the same problem with chrome. For some reason, Chrome wouldn't load when opened from a link like on a google search or facebook.

I'm currently using next browser, and from time to time it does the same thing, but if it did, I just hit settings and exit, and it would load the links after that.

There is S Voice, which isn't half bad, you access it by double pressing home button

For calling and texting I just tell Google to "text so and so" and the text is in progress. I don't use the calendar much, interested in calendar commands also.

I think OK Google is a waste of time a battery. It works about 50% of the time.

you dont need to install any app to do this...

if you want to send a text you simply say: Send text to Joe what time are we meeting. Thats it. if you have one or more numbers saved for them, you say Send text to Joe Mobile (or work) waht time are we meeting. you can even say the word question mark and it will place the question mark after your text. same goes for any other punctuation.

I use this app every single day and it works amazing for me. Do you have your Audio History turned on within the Settings? If not, you need to turn this on for the best functionality.

watch this video on google now commands and you can see how well it works.. there are also several videos pitting Google Now to Siri, and in every video you'll find Google Now easily outperforms Siri.

I've used Samsung's Svoice for this for the tow + years I've owned my Galaxy S3, and it works brilliantly.

Google Now is only marginally useful as an assistant, mostly for search and the few Google Services integrated with it. If you have Search/Location History and Location Reporting Turned off, then Google Now is just about useless.

S Voice is better if you actually want to do more with external services (Posting to FB/Twitter, for example) or integrate better with the/more apps on the phone (S Note, etc.).

If S Voice had Siri or Google Now's Speed (or Cortana's Speed), then it would be perfect. Only thing holding it back is the speed to recognize and act on spoken text. Other than that, as an app to interact with the device and its apps, it's superior to Google Now, easily.

Personally, I think S Voice is more comparable to Siri, while Google Now is more comparable to Cortana. I think Google Now and Cortana are somewhat, fundamentally, a bit different than Siri and S Voice. That's just my opinion. I think the rift between the two types of "assistants" will close as time goes on... But Google and Microsoft's leveraging of their Internet Search Assets has led them to taking a bit of a different method of doing things in that field.

Cortana and Google now are a lot more about Predictive Search and working off of collected data from your use of Google/Bing and their various services. Siri and S Voice are more vanilla "virtual assistants" that aim to give a better user experience through deeper device/platform integration - which they do accomplish on their respective devices (Galaxy and iPhone devices).

I think Cortana has a bit of a lead on Google Now because Microsoft develops all the core software for Windows Phone devices, while Google doesn't for most Android devices. Once HTC, LG, Samsung, Sony, etc. replace the Stock Apps (Email, Calendar, Camera, Browser, etc.) it severely limits what Google Now is capable of doing on the device. The OEMs cannot modify Google's "Search" app so there is a wall there and there doesn't seem to be an API surface to properly bridge it - yet.

I've said this in a few of my other posts: to read and observe the willingness to help others with similar devices and problems that are probably not covered in a manual is very impressive!

I salute everyone who takes the time to read these posts and then takes the time to give the best answers that may help the person seeking help.

Reading this particular post; I'm going to give one of these apps a try. I have zero experience with Siri but I do have a number of friends with iphones and they love Siri.

Have I got the app for you!!! I'm a 58 year old, not very savvy woman, but I do get on the forums and read a lot and UTTER, which is still in Beta, works in conjunction with Google Now and is GREAT!!! There are so many tutorials and explanations as to how it works via XDA Developers when you tap on the tabs and voice tutorials. You can download an instant launcer so that you don't have to open the app each time. You can keep it on all the time (for instance while driving) and just say "wake up" and it will ask what you need done. You can set it to default to Google Now for help if Utter can't help you. The two together, so far are great for me! It can announce your phone calls and notifications too.

The Assistant I downloaded from the Play store works great.
One great feature is that it asks you if want it to read an incoming text message.

I have only recently begun to use OK Google, since I have been used to old habits of doing everything manually.

I've not had any trouble using it as an assistant, search tool, etc. I can set appointments, send text/emails,make calls, set reminders, etc. very easily.

As others have pointed out, make sure to have location services on, and allow OK Google to access your history and train to your voice.

Props to JimKnuckles video link, that showed me a few things I never thought about using it for.
