Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] VM LS720V8 - Updating, Rooting, and Unbricking

I have achieved root using Stump Root by Team Codefire. ZV5 aboot with loki still works so patches made to the boot or recovery images are good to go. Once again, thanks to some very talented dev's, our modding of this phone can continue.

That was going to be the next one I was going to suggest

the strangest thing just happened.

i installed twrp via command line method and then restarted my phone into recovery just to make sure it worked properly. it did.

then i went to install the fota update. when i hit "install" it booted into recovery. which i thought was odd... it took me to the reboot menu in twrp i chose "system" and the phone rebooted. it was pretty quick and i didn't see an install or update dialogue so i went to check the software version and i'm still at v7.

even more odd... the update notification is gone. and when i go into system settings and check the various updates all of them say my phone is up to date. i siad f*#$ it and deleted the actua update from /cache then ran the update check again... says the phone is up to date... it's been an hour and no fota notifications.

lol.

i guess i have to wait for the fota update to hit my phone again and try again. i have stumproot on my sd card ready to go for when the update does go through.

very odd.

glad my phone isn't a brick yet though.

Sounds like the update failed. It's supposed to reboot into twrp for the update if you have it installed. Have you modified any system files? Removed any? If so, that's why it failed. Hang tight, i'm building the stock roms now. I'll post them sometime today.

Someone who is on V8 could help me with this. Please try and run Purple Drake to root. I know its for the G3 but please try it as it works for my L90 and want to try it.

Directory list

As a precaution. I am not responsible for any form of brick or damage done to your device.

Just a follow-up, Purple Drake did not work for gaining root.

I confirm stumproot works on v8 only if the device wasn't rooted on v7.

How do I know this? I recently bought 6 LG F3 from ebay, one of them updated to v8 before I do anything. I used stumproot on this one, it worked. One of them updated to v7, I used towelroot. Then the system update window pop up last night, I updated it to v8. When I ran stumproot on this one, it says device rooted. But supersu and root checker both say not rooted. Anything I can do?

Exact same thing here.
Stump stated rooted supersu was hosed.
