MetroPCS PSA: CDMA Network Shutdown Info

CDMA Network in Miami (Florida) is phatetic 2 months ago, I can't have a conversation close to 1 minute with anyone without a disconnection and the data speed is insulting in any place. Any of you knows when is the Shutdown in Florida?? I'm very desperate right now but I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (500$ one year and a half ago) and i want the 200$ upgrade plan for the Shutdown.

The best metropcs phone right now is the Kyocera Life, right?

Thx a lot

I am not sure about the network shutdown for you, my area only has about 30 days left. Wife is using the S3 and doesn't have problems with her voice/text. Hopefully more local people can help you out in that regards. As for your 2nd question, the Life is not the best phone from Metro. If you are looking for a phone that will be free after your $200 rebate, it isnt a horrible choice. If you are OK with spending money, than the S4 or S5 might be for you. Personally, I didn't want to pay the money for those 2 phones. I grabbed the OnePlus One for $350 and I like it better than the S4 or S5. Since you can grab any GSM phone, you have a lot of options that could suit you better than waiting for the rebate/CDMA shutdown. Moto has some good phones out there and will be releasing their new phone in a week.

I have $30 unlimited plan (250 full speed).
it works for me I am always on wifi.
Can I upgrade to GSM phone and keep my rateplan?

I've gotten different answers when calling but the website has a option all I have to do is enter the new IMEI.

You have to have a GSM plan. I believe the only plans available are the $40, $50 and $60. From everything I have heard, you grandfathered plan will not work. You may be able to switch during a promotion that could help you out though.

Thank you Confed for your response. My wife bought the Kyocera Hydro Life GSM for 50 bucks (from a LG MOTION, we try to no spend money) and her problem with the network dessapear.

I'm waiting for the shutdown because I don't want to spend much and I will pray for a good Phone between 200-300 $. The GS3 with CM 11 is a phantastic phone and i will be patient with the CDMA network..

Telefunken, the plan on GSM now is => 40$ Unlimited (1G full speed).

Sadly I wouldn't really hold much to them fixing the CDMA network. They're shutting it down in 9 months or so at the latest depending on your market. They'd only fix it if there was a large amount of CDMA customers from your area doing complaints. At least 90% of CDMA customers have migrated to GSM already so sadly they won't be fixing problems that only affect a few.

old phone ZTE Avid 4g .. new ZTE Concord II, both bought at Best Buy zip 95304...i am just so frustrated. 2 hrs with metro pcs tech and he said i need a new sim card. I get the 4g icon but Zero bars. THe on-screen news and weather updates constantly, but i cannot access internet at all.

I hope by now you have resolved this, but I would like to say that sounds like an APN mismatch problem and not a network problem.

My aunt is going through the same problem that you are going through. My advice? Try to sell that phone as soon as you can. On Amazon, Craigslist, or Ebay. The CDMA network is terrible and will probably be shut down in the coming months. At that point you will probably be stuck with a very expensive ipod.

anyone know when the CDMA system will be shutdown in Michigan?
Probably one of the last ones when its final shutdown time in summer 2015. Metro has much better coverage in most of Michigan so T-Mobile should match them before shutting down. The markets so far that have been shutting down are the ones with spectrum constraints and Michigan doesn't really have any.

Any word on Los Angeles? I checked metropcs.com and the site is a joke.

I also googled to which nothing relevant came up. Also I haven't gotten any texts or emails from Metro letting me know the cdma network being shut down.

Also the links in the first post aren't working.
They changed the URL and didn't even link the new one on the homepage either  . Updated OP with new link though.

"Phones operating on the legacy network in Bakersfield, Merced and surrounding areas of Merced must be upgraded by 11/14/14."

From the Philadelphia upgrade page, Looks like Central California is next, don't think they had many customers there as it was mainly Cricket in Central with MetroPCS being more dominant in Northern and Southern CA.

Yeah, Cricket is going off CDMA soon. I got to buy a new phone...Again! We need more information and much sooner these companies expect us to do it quickly. Gee, I'm not rich. Ty for your post

When the merger for T-Mobile and MetroPCS was approved, there was a good amount of information released early on. If memory serves me right, it was around April or May of 2013 when they said they would be shutting down CDMA by the end of 2015 and would move quicker if they could. When my market was shutting down, I had at least 90 days to get a new phone.

Phones that are equivalent to the S3 can be had for a lot cheaper than $500. I was on a budget as well since I had to purchase 3 phones with the eventual shutdown. I started saving as soon as the merger happened. An unlocked S3 can be purchased for around $200-215. If you wanted to buy a Metro branded phone, the CDMA S3 netted you a $200 credit which would allow you to get the S4 for $300.

yes and on a very limited budget $199 is a bit of money to come up with.

after rent/utilities/cable/internet/phone(s)/etc. how much is usually left over to put toward these phones.

Not everyone is in such tight spots but some people are. I know myself and my wife both have phones from 2012 and other people even longer time frame.

I only mention this because I wish metro was giving out the info sooner, Not these vague its shutting down in 2015 things but actual info, such as the philly shut down, they give you 90 days heads up.

But on the forums we been chatting since 2years ago. Now metro has phones to fit budget or you can B.y.O .D that is aka BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE. Now this is where you see a phone on eBay,swapper,newegg,Letstalk.com or maybe Christmas shopping was over and in January prices drop on all products. So you see a GSM PHONE in Walmart they want 100.00 to buy it unlocked . so you buy the phone run to metro get it turned on .

I see its been a while since I was on here and I certainly see where you are coming from but you are not understanding what I and a couple of others have said.
If I didn't care what crappy phone I used I could sure do what you suggest, but If I want a good phone, and equal to or better then what I already own........ You understand what I mean now?

A year and 3/4's is Forever in the technology world.

If someone isn't able to prepare for "the next Big Thing" in almost 2 years, IMO, that isn't the fault of technology or the carriers...

It has always been that it costs to play, how Much do you want to play?

There was a time the LG Motion cost $160.
