Note 4, or not Note 4... That is the question??

I was all set for the Note 4 but the lack of audio improvement concerns me.

This may sound strange.. but I also really dislike the way Touchwiz now looks :(

I prefer the bright colours that are on the Note 2, the phone now looks so bland/dull.(too much white in the settings- I prefer it to be black)

I love my Note 1 and 2 and was hoping that the 4 would have:

Larger internal memory.
Considerable improvements to audio.
larger battery capacity.

May wait for the Note 5,time will tell.

Simple test. Used the stock app with my 16 ohm Vibe Metals and 18 ohm Klipsch buds. Boosted the EQ settings up and had the stock app at 13 (about 90%). Same result with both BB units. Did the same with the G3 and i6. The results correlated with Phonearena's analysis. The N4 was significantly lower.

No harm no foul if no root, I am not bothering with the N4. Need the card writes for my other apps and content.

Upade: From what I have read about the kernel version on the VZW version, N4 will take a while to root if ever. I will pass on the N4 rather than wait six months for Lollipop and assuming card writes are even in the release.

If that is true about the N4 and root, I will not be getting it either. Where did you read about this VZ kernel problem?

XDA forum. The Kernel is different from all variants and appears to be the one "of course" that can not be rooted with chain fire. Not sure about the Att or Sprint models, but no go for the VZW.

Instead of getting one on Thursday/Friday at BB, I will hold off and see if root happens. If not, I will pass and get a cheap Note 3 to bridge until next spring when the 64bit devices release with Lollipop. Who knows, maybe card writes ARE enabled in Lollipop. I highly doubt it, but you never know until release. Doubtful none the less and probably a six-ish month wait from now.

Card writes are not an option for my choice. I will take a Note 3 with card writes ANY day over the Note 4 without them. Not that big a jump to the Note 4 to have my apps crippled- especially emulators and media apps.

I am fairly confident the low volume can be fixed with Poweramp, but that is half the battle. Need the card writes for the battle to be won :)

Added: I guess I can only wait a "few" days since was going to do the $200 offer with one of my data lines. Short window! I will check with BB how long I can drag the preorder out. I guess it is up until the offer expires. If that is November 1st, that gives a little more time anyway- presuming they let me put the preorder on hold that long.

Thanks for the info. I'll check out the XDA forums. I'm in the same boat as you on the root issue. And since I got a new N3 couple weeks back after dropping my original N3 face down onto a rock working outside of my house, I'm not as inclined to upgrade as I was. With my insurance replacement I got a new N3. Had to go through the hassle of 4 to 6 hours to set it up properly again, and my last Titanium backup to my SD on my broken N3 was back on July 6th, so I lost some app data, but it is kind of like having a new phone regardless. I have sd card writes working on my new N3 (rooted easily with Towelroot) and will wait out to see if the VZ N4 gets root before upgrading, if at all now.

Though I wanted the N4, I am now passing on it and cancelling the preorder. The device seems great, but NEED the card writes, but root (or an easy process) is not a guarantee. I can not wait at least six months for Lollipop and then assume card writes are even enabled in it.

Sad I am making my decision not on the device, but due to Android itself. Nice device, but too restrictive for my needs. S4 it is then until a device with Lollipop is available- again ASSUMING card writes are enabled. That, or a newer device I like that is easy to root :)

Added:

Not many I like though: N3, N4 and Z3. Common traits are at least 32GB and sd slots. The G3 is dead to me due to the power piggy display.

Do you happen to know if the sound problem is through bluetooth also, or just through wired headsets?

Reports are bluetooth is fine, but I did not test it. I was going to test Poweramp for the low output from the 3.5mm jack, but no point now. Not unless root happens this week or early next.

If there is a problem with the 3.5mm output, I doubt that the Bluetooth would necessarily have the same issue, as you noted.

As far as you cancelling - you might as well wait until Nov 1st - why cancel before you have to? You never know, root might happen a few days after it is released.

I am really liking the N4.

Poweramp is my music app of choice and works with bluetooth devices like it was a stock app. The audio output from Poweramp is louder than the stock app. The stock audio app is a lot lower with output than the iPhone or other comparable devices.

I use Poweramp to skip tunes and randomize, but my car does not offer anything beyond that. Poweramp works fine though using the car's audio interface as control.

You can increase the amp and gain with Poweramp to make a huge difference over the stock app.

Loving my Note 4 :)

I can easily use mine one-handed, it isn't that wide, and I use the TouchPal T9 keyboard happily as I did on my S4 32GB.

WRT MicroSD, I discovered some games like Angry Birds Epic left their game data in my MicroSD, it seems Samsung continues with their custom MicroSD patch in Android.

One last thing, Note 4 support AmpliTube LE, there is a free version in Galaxy Gifts for Note 4 and Note Edge, meaning Samsung must have tweaked the audio SDK in these beasts.

Tried the Note 4 at VZ today and was astonished by how glitchy it seemed. Disabling Samsung's keyboard and switching on the Swype one definitely helped, but it still seemed to be distracted by something. I trust that something was the Verizon demo, but the Droid Turbo on the next display was handling the demo as well without getting caught up in it. And the trace typing on the Droid Turbo blew the Samsung away.

The display on the Note is really impressive, but after seeing all the Samsung phones in the store (and LG ones, by the way) with screen burn-in, I wonder if it would stay that way. The Droid Turbo display is great in the Chrome browser but way oversaturated color on the UI and most other apps. You'd think they could get the color right system-wide . . . as Samsung at least have with the Note.

Question on the Note 4; I'm one of those rare people who really has liked Samsung's "plastic fantastic" build, as I believe it helps lower the risk of shattering the screen as well as making the device lighter. What does the aluminum edge of the Note 4 mean for the phone's durability?

On one-handed use, the Droid Turbo seems to be the limit for my hands. I'd still go with the Note 4, especially the developer version, if the glitches are short-term and not deeply built into the phone. But the Droid really is more ergonomic.

Pluses for Note: OIS camera, color profile consistency, color balance, separate channels for CDMA and LTE (as opposed to requiring VoLTE to handle voice and data together), developer edition should allow complete control over LTE bands, very low SAR, loud earpiece.

Pluses for Droid: battery, design looks more durable, trace typing, speed of operation, one-handed use, stock version supports forthcoming LTE Band 2 on Verizon as well as European roaming bands, water resistance, price includes one zero-deductible glass replacement. (Note, stock Samsung should be upgradable to Band 2 if Verizon bothers to push a firmware update)

Which to buy? Or wait for the Nexus? I'd never imagined myself buying a tablet and using it as a phone, but I can't rule it out at this point. Can the Droid's earpiece be made louder? Can the Chrome color profile be extended to the rest of the phone? Can the Note's UI run smoothly and can the trace typing be improved? Which one in real world use is more likely to survive a drop?

I do not like fixed batteries, but if the Turbo had a micro sd, I might have considered it. Now that I have the N4, I like the extra display space and not sure I could go back unless had no choice. Much easier to read and games/media are a better experience IMO.

As far as plastic, it absorbs kinetic energy from drops better than metal and affords a design with replaceable battery. I am not a preferred fan of unibody due to fixed batteries.

Nice that Moto use buttons though rather than hog space with a navigation bar. I really hate those things.

Like what the title said, I am getting it this Monday and I cannot wait for it! The thing is there's so much features and apps in this phone that I won't really be using. Is there any way to delete some apps and features without rooting it? I really want this phone kind of stock but I also don't want to void my warranty. Rooting isn't really an option (for now) and I want my Note 4 optimized.

Another thing is, anyone here have this case? Amazon.com: Galaxy Note 4 Case, Verus [Heavy Drop Protection] Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Case [Thor][Satin Silver] Extra Slim Fit Dual Layer Hard Case - AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, International, and Unlocked - Case for Samsung Galaxy Note IV SM-N910S Late 20 I'm getting the Satin Silver color and I want to hear some of your opinions about this case, I'm really digging it!

Thank you for reading! :D
