Let's have a thread to discuss Nexus 9 issues (and fixes / workarounds, if any).

I am having some app compatibility issues. Gangstar Rio and GTA Vice City won't play at all. Has anyone tried one of those on their Nexus 9 and can confirm they aren't working?

Anyone else experiencing issues with getting passed the update screen? I'm connected to multiple WiFi networks but it will not let me hit next to actually download the update.

treat this like a mobile phone looking for an OTA...

you should NOT be connected to multiples hot spots!!!! you just need one.

can you restart the device?

make sure the wifi hotspot you are connected to has allowed your device to be connected to it.

i am going to ASSume you are home and you have your own wifi network to which you know the credentials to.

if this is verified and you are having issues, return/rma it.

I've had my Nexus 9 for about a week now, and I have not had the problems I've seen in some reviews, however I have one bug to report, I cannot connect to my WiFi at work.

I've done some searching, and it appears that the problem is with the build of Android L on the N9, rather than the tablet itself. It will not connect to WiFi networks using a very specific security/encryption set up. In my case, our network uses WPA2 with both AES and TKIP encryption turned on.

It would appear that the AES with WPA2 is the culprit. It is possible that this only happens on Cisco routers. According to posts at the second link, it may only be people with _Cisco_ routers running WPA2 AES with the problem, and indeed I just checked that my office uses Cisco routers, and I am encountering this issue.

Hopefully it will be addressed in the new OTA coming for Nexus 9.

GTA Vice City doesn't work in Lollipop on the Nexus 7 either. I hope they get this bug fixed soon.

The nook app doesn't run, just like the initial problems when the nexus 7 was released. Anyone else having problems with the nook reader APP?

I have a couple of other Android items using KitKat, and rely on widgets. But on my new Nexus 9 I can't find widgets! Where are they???

Long press on the home screen, then choose widgets down toward the bottom.

Is anyone else having charging issues? I'm having legitimate charging issues to the point where I've only been able to get a full charge once. The full charge may have been prior to root (I'll have to experiment more) but let's face it... This is a nexus. The majority of users are rooters and I haven't seen anyone else with this issue.

To preemptively answer a couple of questions; yes I am charging with the stock cable (and actually also a nexus charge cable from the play store which has slightly better amperage) and yes I am charging via an outlet (ac) as opposed to USB charging.

Also of significance, I am even powering the tablet down as to eliminate the possibility of a rogue process or wake lock consuming more battery than I'm providing. I'll literally plug the tab in at bedtime and wake up to see it at 27% where it was when I plugged it in.

I always confirm that it's charging either via the charge animation while powered off or the battery stats screen while powered on..

Somehow while I was using it, I managed to get it charged to about 57% and powered down and plugged in for the night. It was sadly in the same place in the am. We're talking 8-12 hours of confirmed charging and no gain.

So did I just get a faulty device? I'd blame it on the charger but I've tried two with the same results. I'm considering getting a replacement to see if I have different results. I worry I'll see the same thing.

i use whatever charge cable i have lying around. i dont turn the tab off. i keep it on 24/7.

stock, not rooted still using shipped firmware.

zero issues with charging or anything else for that matter. i use the tab daily when im at the job and the charge drains steadily as i would expect....

I definitely haven't seen the problem you're having with charging. Here's what I have noticed:

1. It seems a bit slow to charge. I'm coming from a 3-year-old iPad 2, and it definitely seemed quite a bit quicker to charge than the N9.

2. Battery life is disappointing. I decided to get rid of the iPad because as it has aged, I've noticed the charge lasting less and less. That old iPad lasted longer than the Nexus 9. I'm going to run for a few days and keep my eye on the battery stats now that I have it set up the way I want it.

3. I found the cable that came with it a bit snug. I have a 5-port USB charger (we have a lot of tablets/phones here), and it works great with everything I toss at it. I got 5 decent-grade cables from Monoprice on it, and I noticed that when I nudged/bumped the micro USB when it was on the N9 the cable moved to side side just a pinch (like barely) and the N9 stopped charging. I straightened the cable and it started charging again.

Based on #3 above, I'm going to try a few other cables on the N9 to see if they are running loose. I have one at the office I know is snug in everything I put it on, so I'll have to brign that one home and test it to see. I really wish this thing had wireless charging like my N5. ;-)

the charger plug shipped with this tab is underwhelming, most likely to keep temps in the tablet safe considering there is not a lot of room in there (the extra space betwixt the back cover and the components may also help in heating/cooling). ive used a 50 000 mah battery pack on this sucker and from a low battery state it could charge the tab in 4 hours, according to the info on the tabs screen.

battery life for me is not disappointing. i dont sit and stream movies all day but i am on the tab daily when im at the job and it rivals the battery life i was getting out of my launch day xoom (2011 tablet).

the usb cable is a typical htc usb cable they ship with all their products. i always use monoprice usb cables with filter protection and keep the htc shipped cable in my bag for emergency cases or if someone needs to top off their phone and i need a spare cable.

everyone will have different real world experiences with this tab in their unique environments, but i think most can agree that not being able to charge up the tab is NOT typical.

Strange lock screen issue on my nexus 9

I was watching a YouTube movie trailer for the Five Armies and now my lock screen image is a picture from the trailer.

How do you change the lock screen image so I can change it to something else? Any idea how I managed the first change so I don't do it again?

Update - So perhaps this is supposed to happen, because I just installed the Amazon Music w/ Prime app and when I downloaded one of the albums, the lock screen changed to the artist's album cover.

Is this normal for android 5?
