Root Root and Recovery for Metro pcs Mega! (SGH-M819N)

I have the SGH M819N and can't root it so far. I tried the Kingo and it didn't see my phone. I have Kies and everything I can think of on my PC, Which sees my phone BTW. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Just trying to get rid of bloatware and have the option to install custom roms. I have rooted the last two phones and was running Cyanogen Mod on both so I'm no noob. Help me Obi Wan you're my only hope.;)

I had the same problem as you did. What helped me is I Went to a computer that had never been connected to my phone (good thing I had a computer for my media server) anyways I started up kingo first and then hooked up my phone. It installed the drivers then and I was able to root my Mega :)

Brb just told me how to root and put recovery on my m819. I had to put recovery first and used the twrp tar recovery and when I did the backup it ask did I want to root and it work just fine

I'm sorry I forgot to tell you to use the .tar with odin not the .zip ones. Once you have the tar version installed and you do your backup plus root. You can then download the zip version and flash that in recovery, reboot recovery and you'd have the latest TWRP.

I always use Silesh.Nair's Recovery just because his is specifically set up for our version of Mega. It's also set up for KitKat if you'd like to use those ROMs.

here's the link: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/8uuvfvauztdna/MEGA_6.3#io4cb20raa155

you can also find his ROM's here: Galaxy Mega Android Development - xda-developers

for a great "tweaked" stock ROM go to megalomanic14's ROM here: (ROM) MegaFire Mj2 Deodex i9205 V10/V10X - xda-developers

Like always BACK UP YOUR STOCK ROM FIRST THING. also use Titanium Backup to back up all your apps. This is great to do if you are on Metro pcs's version of the phone. When you use Megalomanic14's ROM, if you want to use the Metro apps like My Metro you can. :D

Dear BnB, I'm trying to flash your stock ROM using restore in TWRP but once it reaches the end it says "failed" for some reason. And my phone gets stuck on a logo screen. Why is it happening?

you're phone is a metro phone and rooted?

is your phone one of the newer version that came with kitkat on it? if so My back up most liekly wont work on it.

"Boot into Recovery (to get into recovery. turn the phone off hold down the Power Button, the Volume UP Button and the Home Button all at the same time till it vibrates than a black screen comes up with little blue letters in the upper left corner that say "booting recovery" with the Samsung logo. let go of all the buttons when that screen comes up and wait for it to go into recovery) Do a backup of your Current ROM. It will ask you if you want to ROOT. select yes. Let it ROOT and than back up your ROM."

How you do this? When I go into recovery I don't have an option to do a backup

Hey everyone. Trying to root my Samsung Mega 6.3 with Metro PCS SGH-M819N running kit Kat 4.4.4. Kingo failed on trying to root it as to going as far to where you see a Android Logo with "Downloading" and "Do not turn off target!" Kingo then fails on the PC saying to type my email in when they get an update.

I am also thinking of changing the OS/ROM? I am good at troubleshooting PC's, but am noob to smartphones. The reason being is that sometimes the top part of the screen does not register any touch sometimes. The drop down menu works, but right below that about 1/2 inch it doesn't register. At first I thought it was hardware, so I turned the phone sideways so everything rotated. but where the top was before now worked (can scroll a web page for example) an the top bar, now along the longest part of the screen wont register. This problem stays throughout trying to use chrome where I cannot type anything in the address bar or click / touch / activate anything at the top. If i go to settings the tabs at the top (Connections, My Device, Accounts, More...) will not work / register also. Even if I reset the phone, power off, remove battery and power back on, the top still does not register.

The temporary fix for this is I run another app, usually Craigslist PRO, type in something to search and result page pops up with a back button and change cities. This then activates the top part, and I can exit and everything works from there on normally.

Would you suggest 5.0 lollipop or some other OS for this phone? Oh these thoughts... :wtfdroid:

Thanks
