What did you upgrade to after your nexus 10?

Big problem here is if a person upgrades, changes over from, a Nexus 10 then they will usually start visiting that other forum and not one for a device they may no longer own. However there may be some whom have handed down the old tablet.

I still have mine with no plans of changing over. It does all I really need except I would like to root it. Otherwise I am happy with it so far.

It had better be with the Octa core processor. They are limited too by the storage speed as well.

TBH the Nexus 10 is fast enough for me. This especially now that I have tweaked it with .5 animations. With it rooted and the custom rom giving me the translucent bars I have no real reason at all to upgrade other than its size. Truth be told the size gives it the amazing battery that seems to go on forever. In the end I am not suer I'd be willing to trade for a lower battery life.

there are a few things that made me give the Nexus 10 time in a dresser drawer forgotten over the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that replaced it. but the most important ones:

1. app compatibility on the Nexus 10 is appalling (Real Racing 3 runs in a horridly low resolution, zero anti-aliasing, ugly look, Real Racing 2 is listed as not compatible, as is a lot of other games, including NBA Jam, and Deer Hunter Challenge)

2. the rubberized back is easy to get dirty, hard to clean.

3. the device is much heavier than any other 10" tablet i own, including the Note 10.1

4. the lack of transparent bars makes it less immersive, takes up valuable screen space, and apps have to resize during load to accommodate them, which may have led to the aforementioned lack of compatibility in #1. the device lags a lot as of 4.4.4, there's zero ART, zero features that KitKat offers that it ends up looking like holo dark Android 4.1 with white notification icons. essentially every key feature i hoped for was stripped out of the Nexus 10; hoping lollipop changes this, and, if so, i might reconsider using it again.

5. the battery life is horrible. about 6 hours until it's dead. the Note 10.1 sports the exact same screen resolution, but gets at least 8 hours of screen-on time. Nexus 10 recharge times are horribly slow. takes at least 12 hours to recharge it from 30%.

The only real issue of the ones you mention for me is the lag. I want a snappier tablet. I get annoyed when there are delays. I thought about bringing the tablet back to its born on date and re installing everything. Don't know if that will help. Also I have a lot of apps. Maybe that hurts as well.

Now I am going to sound stupid. For the past few years I have been reading peoples displeasure with not having transparent bars. I have no clue what you guys are talking about. When I think bars on a mobile device, I thing the bars you get that measure your signal. What are you referring too? Maybe I should not know because then I will be upset I don't have them...

Thanks

Notification bar & soft keys bar. It doesn't bother me though, my N5 has them, my N10 doesn't, I'm over it :D

Installed Lollipo last week, clean install (I always do a fresh install with any major update anyway) it runs plenty fast IMO.

If I remember the stock 4.4.4 was not too fast but ok. CM11 seems better but it is not the fastest in the world. My guess with that is the internet connection could be faster, and while it is over stock it still could use improvement.

Battery here usually last me days if just browsing. Even with the pogo adapter it is a slow charge. That would be nice but the battery here is huge in the Mah capacity.

I don't find the back hard to clean, I would ask what are you getting on it?

The weight I suspect is that huge battery.

I am not a huge gamer so I do not seem to have run into the compatibility or lag issues. Angry birds though plays fine.

Since Lollipop is meant to have the immersion of colored status/nav bars it breaks the Material Design aesthetic to have black nav and status bars. plus it takes up valuable space on the screen. the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has the same screen and resolution, and has no problem pulling off transparency even with TouchWiz overhead, so i just don't understand what's keeping Google from at least including them in the Nexus 10.

As for weight, the battery can't be that huge. it's got the worst screen-on life i've had on any tablet. takes forever to recharge. my Note 10.1 goes roughly 7-8 hours screen-on time and has a more realistic recharge time.

I have many things that get the back dirty. mostly oils from any snacks i'm consuming while holding the device. the Samsung Note has a more dirt-resistant back made of plastic that's easy to clean with a kitchen rag. the Nexus 10's feels a bit sticky and any towels just rub off their fibers and won't clean. it's a pain to clean it to where it looks pristine. the Nexus 10's screen is easy enough to clean. i'm just not a fan of that back. i am reminded of the Amstrad PenPad device from years ago, and i recalled that actually getting so icky that it disintegrated over time. the 10's back feels sticky a lot, and attracts fingerprints and such like a magnet.

Well the battery is 9,000 Mah, the older 10.1 used a 7,000 and the 2014 version uses 8,220. If you battery is that bad I would suggest using a calibration app as it might help.

My back does not seem to have your issues. In fact I can't remember even once having to clean it just wipe it is about it. Mine has the feel of tire rubber from a car or motorcycle, just enough tactile feel where it is not going anywhere.

A clean install does tend to speed it up. I also use 0.5 speed, over 1.0, for animations which makes it feel much snappier. Other that what I can tell is page loading the tablet feels very fast. Although not a gamer when playing Angry Birds every loads right away.

If I needed it for production work I am sure I would want more CPU grunt power but for now it feels fine. I am sure it could use some more video power but for HD videos and the like it seems to work well.

I still have my Nexus 10 that I bought new in January of 2013. I have looked at the 10.1 and a few others. I don't see anything that they do that I cannot do on my Nexus 10 to be honest. I don't play games. I use mine to mess around on the internet, occasionally stream some video, Facebook, Twitter, read ebooks, and review CAD drawings for work projects. The Nexus 10 handles all of those tasks as well as anything, IMO. The device is still "snappy". I just upgraded to Lollipop last night (I did not do a clean install, just had it do it's update) and from what little I played with it, everything seemed fine. My battery holds up to my needs well. I charge mine every 5-6 days and generally spend 1 1/2 hours of screen time per day on it, charging it only when it gets down below 20% most of the time. I put in on the charger (stock Samsung wall plug and cable that came with it) when I go to bed and it is charged by morning. I don't seem to have problems with stuff sticking to the back and seldom have to clean it. Also I think the weight is of no issue, in fact, I think the added weight over newer lighter models gives the unit a more solid feel in hand.

Nothing wrong with these Nexus 10 units, IMO.

Last night I did the reset and it seems to be working better. But all I really had time to do was install all my apps.
I use this as a computer replacement when I travel and use it for about three hours a night when I watch TV. I charge the battery every other day. I think I could get about 10 hours out of it if I pushed it, but that's not an issue for me.
All the stuff about the cleanliness means nothing to me, as I keep it in a case.
I just want to buy myself a new toy. But I don't want to buy a new tablet and find out it is not much better than what I already have.
From what I read here, I will stick with the Nexus 10 for a while longer.

Quick question, when I did the reset, did it just erase all my apps and data or did it do a fresh install of the OS?
