Root Nexus 7 won't boot, NRT can't fix.

Yesterday I read a CNET article on how to get the Android 5.0 update for my Nexus 7 (2012) by flashing a factory image (I can't post links yet, but if you search on CNET's website for "How to update your Nexus device to Android 5.0 Lollipop right now" under "Articles" you can find it as the first result). So I tried using their method on Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT), but something went very wrong. As it was going through its process I got an error message that it had failed:

writing 'bootloader' ...
FAILED <remote: <InvalidState>>

Now when I try to boot my tablet up, first it gives me the Google logo like normal for maybe 2 seconds and then the bootloader menu thing (Start, Restart bootloader, ect.) comes up. It appears at the top right of the screen where it would be in the bootloader menu, except the Google logo is still there. The same happens when I try to boot it from the bootloader menu, except small white words come up at the top left of the screen that say "Boot failed."

So I thought that the whole 5.0 update messed it up. So I tried flashing the 4.4.4 factory image using NRT again, and the exact same error message appeared as when I was trying to flash 5.0.

Is my OS... gone? :stupid:

The computer I am running NRT on is Windows XP home edition SP3 if that matters.

Is my tablet dead forever, or can I install Android somehow? Any help is appreciated.

Something changed though. When I went back to Wugfresh's website, I updated NRT and tried to get 5.0 again. It went further then before, and now when I try to boot it up, the Google sign comes up like its booting regularly but it just stays on the Google... the other stuff doesn't come up now... Is this bootloop?

Did you do the Initial Setup and Driver Installation in Wugs Kit? I had hang ups similar to you and I had to walk myself through the Driver setup again before Flashing to 5.0. However, I was rooted with an unlocked bootloader. If you're going to wipe the device anyway, I would walk through the driver setup, then Unlock the bootloader (via Wugs NRT also), then try it again. If you chose the "Device is on/Normal" option, make sure you have USB debugging enabled.

Seems to me these tool packages are to bothersome. I like to do a good ole manual install myself. It helps keep me fresh with the commands.

If you are no longer getting the other stuff then the bootloader should have updated successfully (we hope) you may want to try and put twrp on it and install a rom and see if it works. I know these tools are supposed to help you but if the bootloader got wiped so did the system and thats why the google logo shows only and never boots into the system.
