Root [Boost Mobile] Tri-Band S3 (SPH-L710T)

Hi all, on my Sprint SPH-L710T I can't seem to get my radios working with any ROM other than Gummy 3.00. This happens to be the first rom I installed after getting the phone. Subsequent roms have no cell/data functionality (Baseband = unknown).

I have so far tried Gummy 4.00 and Bliss Stalk. I end up flashing back to the Gummy 3.00 recovery I made in CWM in order to regain cell functionality.

Thoughts? I want to try other roms but they're useless without cell/data.

STOP.... LOOK UNDER BATTERY...

IF YOU HAVE AN L710T MODEL, TAKE CAUTION FLASHING ROMS!!

This new variant will not take all non-"t" model roms!!!!

Root can be achieved with philz recovery.

If your flash goes bad, and get baseband unknown, imei, phone number, etc unknown, your outta luck!

Regular l710 odin .tar files will NOT save your phone.

Until we have the .tar stock, your outta luck and now have a small tablet until we do...

Just trying to keep all the T-Model stuff together.

I bought this two days ago. Best buy had it on a black Friday special for $80. I was stoked and pulled the trigger. Then I started researching the part number. At first I was exited they improved the phone I thought triband, more ram. Then I realized none of the ROMs would work. That was the entire reason I bought this phone the huge dev community. Oh well.

stolikat,

I had the same issue on a couple of different roms, no baseband, phone number, nothing. HOWEVER, between pages 1 and 6 there is a link to a modem.img file that you can use cwm to restore it to your phone under advanced restore from sd. No rom actually wipes the modem just fiddle ****s with it somehow. Try restoring the modem.img I can't remember what page its on. It will work I had the exact same issue.

Regards,
Sean
What a bummer. Looks like I will be returning this one. I should have known that getting this for $80 was to good to be true.

Nope. You need the odin .tar now.

Thats not available as far as we know.

Flashing a new rom wont help if baseband unknown, imei gone, etc.

The radios are in the o.p. of this thread.

Hi, I think you were replying to my post. If I install the radio .zip in the OP, will I regain service with the roms that say Baseband=unknown?

The odin .tar is only necessary if the phone is bricked, not if I'm trying to restore radio functionality, correct?

TunjungaGUY,
EDIT: NEW UPDATE: From what I can tell, since I've had all day, there is no need to restore the efs and or the modem for nearly all 4.4.2 roms I have tried. Most have been AOSP/CM. I do however have to flash the Universal Boost APN.

HUGE UPDATE EVERYONE. After flashing many different roms I have some updates.

First.

Go back to stock or a nand that has working baseband thats TW 4.4.2
Go into CWM then Backup the Modem and EFS, you have to do them separately.
Then from what I can tell flash any rom that is 4.4.2 and restore the modem and efs you just backed up.
Then flash the universal APN boost fix.
Then you should be good to go for the service.

Regards,
Sean

You may have misunderstood me. I have not touched my phone yet. I just took it out of the box last night and am still waiting for my SD card to come. I am very impressed with the phone right out of the box. It is much nicer than my ZTE Awe even though we have a great little dev community going on with that phone.

That sounds like great news although I am a learn by doing type guy so until I get my SD card I wont really know for sure. I hope some others will start testing this method. It could be pretty sweet if it would unlock every S3 rom out there.

Does anyone have stock recovery? If I had that I have a huge group of developers that are pretty interested in working on this all.

I am pretty sure there is a nandroid floating around put we are missing the .tar file for some reason.

Is there a more detailed guide on how to root the SPH-L710T ? Looks at some of the posts in the thread dont see anything i believe ? Will the root method Work with the S3s that come preloaded with 4.4.2 on them ? Got it on black Friday.

Not looking to install roms or anything, Witch doesnt look to good for this phone anyways from what i read.
Just would like root to get Wanam Xposed on it and little things like that.

I never used odin to root a phone before, How does installing a recovery root it ? Usually i use root tools or ADB, Fastboot, or even apps like towlroot. then install recoverys if needed.

Obliviously rooting it will void the warranty, Is there any ways to reset the counter ? like on some phones.

Thanks :)

So step by step on how to root this phone and what files to uses would be great :)

Well, I have been with boost mobile for a while now, but I finally moved back up to an S3 on their network. (Had one before, under T-Mobile) I thought I had a SPH-L710, but I have a SPH-L710T.
Knowing that, I learned a few things I don't want other people to have to learn like I did.

Stock is the only ROM (Kernel?) that rotates properly.

Install custom ROM:
Follow the steps provided to install the ROM by the Dev.
Boot your fresh ROM
Diagnose any issues (Wifi, Bluetooth, data, rotation, etc)
Apply the APN Fix for your network.
If you feel gutsy, make a backup, and try a new Kernel to attempt to fix your issues.
Kernel tests:
Conquest: Singularity:
Code:
KtoonSez: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946 (Touchwiz version) 100% works
Stock: Rotation works. Loses Wifi. Maybe bluetooth, mobile data...
Resurrection Remix:
Code:
Stock: Rotation correct, Phone and NFC FC Loop
3.4.91-CM: Rotation inverted, no bluetooth, no camera
3.4.104-CM: Rotation inverted, no bluetooth, no data, no wifi, camera non-tested
KT747-07-11-2014: LED Pulsed blue, no boot passed the Kernel screen
QuantumKernel-9.8: Rotation inverted, no wifi, no bluetooth, no camera
DKP-20140925: Rotation inverted, no wifi, no bluetooth, no camera
ROM results:
Some ROMs will cause a connection issue to the camera. Hit or miss.
Code:
BrokenOS: No baseband, wifi, BT
CM11 Snapshot M10: Works perfect by other users reviews.
Beanstalk: Everything works except for landscape rotation
Resurrection Remix: Everything works except landscape rotation, and BT
Conquest: Singularity: Everything works after kernel update for (Touchwiz) KT747 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946
Rooting method:
Code:
1) Place phone in download mode
2) Flash Philz via Odin
3) Reboot into recovery
4) Restart, and it will ask to install SU Binaries
5) Boot phone, open play store, install Superuser
L710 radios DO NOT WORK with the L710T. If you flash a Non-T Radio, follow the guide below:
If your radio gets fragged by a non-T, do not fret. We have a way to get you back to L710TVPU0ANF4.
Code:
1) Download this file: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23681161096070687
2) Reboot to PhilZ
3) Install the .zip
4) Reboot normally
5) Profit!
All thanks for this radio fix go to wykydtron.

These little tid-bits being posted to the world, I hope I have helped someone out there.
Im rooted already I will reupload the zip file
