[Official] Version 1 battery life thread

I uninstalled it as well. Really disappointing that apps are still not being corralled to ensure against adverse effects on battery life. Third party watch faces on Google play also seem to adversely impact battery life. After going through many of these paid and free faces, I decided to go back to the stock faces. I'm back to around 3% battery consumption on the stock faces versus as much as 8-10% battery depletion on the third party watch faces. Too bad since I find some of these really visually appealing versus the bland stock ones.

Thanks Clementine!

I agree about the apps, especially the watch faces. Facer seems to be the least offensive of the lot but it's still not as good as the stock faces. However, that should get better once the programming environment is released with 2.0. The watch faces that are out right now are work-arounds.

After finding out about the expanded customizations in Watchmaker Beautiful Watches, I think the might be some validity to Skrillex's findings on battery life. I will report back to this thread tomorrow to give my feedback, but I am crossing my fingers that it is even less draining than facer. So far, it does seem to be draining slower.

Alrighty, so far, my battery has gone down 4% in 1.5 hours. Granted, it was muted the entire time, which I prefer doing while I'm driving. I'm going to keep it unmuted for as long as possible, to see how it does. Good thing I got an extra charger for work, just in case. So far, it really does seem like Watchmaker has less of an impact on battery than Facer does, but we'll see at the end of the day. If by 730/8pm PST, this thing still has about 15% or higher, then I'll be extremely happy. I started at 55%.

So far, the best "power saving" option for me has been more related to the muting/unmuting of notifications. The battery life is still much better after the two updates they've released, but my goal is to extend the amount of charge times I have with the 360 on charger.

Are those stats for your phone or the moto 360?

This is typical after the update.

I imported the .zip. I went back to Facer after it froze and haven't tried again. Maybe over the weekend.

Thanks

Hmmm, okay. I already imported 4 and didn't have any issues. That was also before I paid for the premium version, for those looking to make the switch.

And, also, for those interested in the impact of battery life, I'm testing with my "normal" usage with muted notifications while I'm at my work desk, 4 hours off charger and only dropped 13%. Using Facer, I would be around 20% by now. If I'm at around 60-65% by the end of today, that would be enough proof for me to see that Watchmaker might in fact be less draining than Facer.

1.5 hours from my last post, I only dropped to 83%. Starting Monday, I'll test with the notifications unmuted the entire day. I get so many notifications during the work week, that I typically don't like having that turned on all the time, but just to give a frame of reference on how much battery life I save, when the notifications keep flooding in, vs. when manually swiping up to check notifications myself.

Okay, after running Watchmaker, rather than Facer, for the past week and a half, I've come back to report that the battery life was likely just an isolated instance. If there was any improvement, it was likely very slight (I'd say somewhere in the 5-7% range). The update on Watchmaker to allow for continuous second hand was definitely worth the switch, but I don't think it all comes down to which interface people feel more comfortable with. Both apps do the job necessary. This is with my "normal" usage:

- Charge to 100%, take off charger and power off
- Turn on 730am
- Mute notifications until arriving at work
- Swap back and forth between mute (at office desk) or unmute (away from office desk)
- Unmute for commute home at 730pm
- 55-60% by the time I'm home
- Turn off 360
- Day 2, turn on at same time (around 730am)
- 10-15% by the time I'm home

When I was running Facer, battery percent (with the above-routine) would typically be between 5-10%, so like I mentioned, not a "huge" improvement, but just slightly enough to get me comfortably through 2 days of use, with a back-up charger at work, just in case I know I'm gonna be out somewhere after work and want notifications on the entire time.

I took my 360 off the charger Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. It hasn't been back on charge since. I left it on my desk at work yesterday, forgetting to bring it home. I assumed when I came in this morning at 8:00 it would be dead. I picked it up from my desk and it was at 11%. I just died about 20 minutes ago. That means it went 52 hours without a charge. I think the concerns of battery life are a bit exaggerated.

When not connected, it can stay on standby for quite a long time. Much like my phone, the battery life is all dependent on how many notifications I get within a day (which is why I also hate that Samsung has a built in feature that wakes up the phone for SMS and other notifications, that can't be turned off without an app or rooting).

But, I think the early complaints on battery life were somewhat justified (prior to the update). Before that update went through, my 360 was worse with battery life than my Galaxy Gear was and that was highly criticized for battery life as well (which, I didn't really mind either). Now, it's about on par with the Galaxy Gear (which actually got better, once it was given an update as well). Overall, the battery life is perfectly fine for my needs (Gets through 2 days of use, when turning it off at night). Anything that would go beyond what I'm getting would just be a bonus.

Hello, I just got my Moto360 last night. When I turned it on it was at 20%, everything was working great. I charged it full overnight. Once I took it off the charger, it was down 5% before leaving the house (10min off charger). 5 hours later, my 360 is at 35% with light to moderate usage. I've been trying to get the OK Google to open the correct app for heart rate and steps and every time it shows me a google search result. If anyone can help me fix that, that would be awesome.

Anyways, auto brightness is set to 1; ambient light off; sitting at my desk typing, not much action today. At this rate, it should be dead come 5pm. There are no additional apps being used yet since I just got it last night.

Please help, suggestions welcome

Mute the notifications as often as possible.

Maybe I am wrong, but if you just got it it may need to update. that sounds like pre-update battery life to me. I am using Facer and I do not mute my notifications (EVER) I take mine off the charger at 6 in the morning and I still have 71% battery at 4:07 PM. Either you have pre-update software or a lemon. Should be worlds better than that.

As you may know by now, this is a bug that's popped up over the last few days for many an Android Wear user. You're not alone. None of my voice commands for fitness-related apps are working either. Everything else does, though; set a reminder, send text to so-and-so, start application, etc.

since the android wear 5.0 update, battery life on the watch has changed. much less run time betwixt charging.

stock, non rooted. sprint nex 6 from goog. not using facer. the watch face im currently using has a sweeping second hand so it consumes more energy but i was using it before the update and did not experience this increaesed drain.

After a couple of weeks with the new devices I've found that with my usage patterns, the watch and phone battery deplete at roughly the same rate. I'm quite delighted with the N6 and moto 360. Both have provided me with much more stamina that I had anticipated after reading many reports of less-than-stellar battery life. Both are usually around the 30% mark when I plug them in at night, I take both off the charger at 8-9 AM and power them up 10-11 at night. I have version 4.4w2 on the watch still, but the latest GW app on the phone.
