Can you get rid of the AT&T Address book without rooting the phone?

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

So, I'm new to android. I have an LG AT&T Optimus (E970)

I'm not super fond of the AT&T address book though and I was wondering if there is any way to use a different kind of address book or disable the AT&T one without rooting the phone because I have never rooted a phone & I can't say I excel in complicated things like that so I would rather not. I don't want to do it wrong and mess up my phone so I'll just have to get used to it if there is no other way.

But if there is ~ I would appreciate any kind of feedback/advice!!

Thanks. :)

Just thought I would share my experience with this. I tried disabling every AT&T app on my Galaxy Note 3 with no luck. I tried turning off the auto sync on the AT&T address book account. I tried looking at the settings page on att.com/addressbook and couldn't find anything there. I found a number to call in the help section there, 800-331-0500. He remoted into my phone and checked everything and couldn't figure it out. Finally he asked someone else and found out it is a setting that has to be disabled from AT&T. He did that and a soft reset on my phone. Hopefully that will fix it. I just switched to this from an iPhone so I'm not quite ready to root yet.
