Help Nexus 6 randomly turns off

I am seeing the random shutdowns as well (and searched to find this thread)... I have the AT&T model that is SIM-locked.

My specs are as follows (same as a previous poster with NO issues):
CPU: APQ8084 ES1.1
eMMC: 32GB Sandisk RV=07 PV=01 TY=57
DRAM: 3072MB Samsung S8 SDRAM DIE=6Gb

I am going to Factory Reset and see if that resolves the issue, but the previous post suggesting that the phone (ie modem) software/hardware causing issues may be on the right track. I've had custom ROMs on other phones in the past and had similar random reboots/shutdowns if I flashed sketchy modem software (or, hell, even AT&T-approved modems) and a call came in.

I'll update this thread if I have any success...

UPDATE:

Gave up and returned the phone... Same issues persisted after the factory reset and the 5.0.1 OTA.

I had the same thing happened to me I have a nexus 7 about a couple weeks ago my nexus would randomly start shouting off on my tablet. when I would plug it in at night and unplug it in the moring it would shout down and some times when I would plug it in at night it would shout off. also at random times it would shout off even if I wasent touching it. so I don't think you should keep your nexus because that mite happen to you

N6 is good but i hate that i had to use it in China, where most google services are blocked rudely. I had to pick up my Nexus 5 to use gmail or google play. Now the biggest advantage of N6 for me is big screen and the dual speaker.

I had the same problem with my Nexus 7 2013, i thought that was the problem with wireless charging. I put the tablet on the wireless charging pad, and when i get up in the morning, it is fully charged but shuted down automatically.

If you misaligned the device on the pad it would overheat and could shut down.

Hi All. Thought it was me accidentally pressing/holding the power button. But a long/extended press does not shut the phone down.

It does for me, and I've done it a few times gripping the phone a little too tightly, which is another reason why I'm not crazy about button placement. I just pressed and held the power button for about 5 seconds and it rebooted.

Just the power button ... I just did it again to make sure. Both from a lock screen and unlocked. Press and hold ONLY the power button for 5 or so seconds and it reboots. Are you sure you have a Nexus 6? :p;)
Good golly! Why didn't I know that? What is everyone griping about then? I've read that gripe MANY MANY times. The N6 doesn't have a reboot option in the power menu. Um . . . Yes it does. Thanks for sharing.;)

That definitely doesn't sound right. I haven't had any of that. In fact quite the opposite. My has only restarted a few times since i got it (and that is because of the buttons and my inability not to grab and hold them  ), It never gets hot, even when using GPS on a charger in my car ... which used to turn my previous phones into a hand warmer. Battery lasts longer than any previous Nexus as well.

I think you've got a defective one and I'd be quick to contact Motorola and get it replaced. :(

My Nexus 6 has had the random shutdown issue since i got it. Have tried several factory resets, safe mode and finally an RMA. Now i have a brand new Nexus 6, and sure enough.. it shuts down randomly!! Trying factory reset without restore as I am typing this.

Update: Factory reset without restoring from phone backup seemed to make a difference.. I think.. Also, keeping the battery at a high charge level seems to help with the frequency of the shutdowns. After the Lollipop 5.1 update I have not had a random shutdown.

If I switch location services to device only my phone runs ok. In high accuracy mode it crashes several times a day. Running 5.1.1

Since this latest update, I have had the google services bug draining battery, my moto 360 will disconnect and re connect several times a day and I am now having random re-boots as well. Including just random shut downs where it does the ATT tones like it's re-starting but does not actually complete the boot and stays off. I backed everything up last night but really hate to do a factory re-set. Any other ideas?
