Root [Boost Mobile] Tri-Band S3 (SPH-L710T)

Acquired a SPH-L710T and bricked it in under 24hr this past weekend because I didn't know there was a difference. WOOHOO. I'm really looking forward to participating in this crapshoot.

I currently stand with Philz running fine, and the phone hangs at the "Samsung" logo with a pulsing blue LED.

I intend to test the tarball The_Dumbest_noob recently posted through Odin later tonight. Failing that I will be screwing around with Morros' Nandroid backup. But for now, I'm headed out for booze and food.

While I'm gone, I have a quick, dumb question. I've never used ADB before: does being in recovery mode make a phone automatically receptive to pushes, or do I have to flip a switch in Philz before I can push Morros' Nandroid backup? Keep in mind I cannot get past the Samsung boot logo.

(participating with a Virgin Mobile device and a supreme willingness to break stuff)

Welcome! Glad you're here to suffer with us. :p
adb push seems to work just fine for me without changing anything in the PhilZ settings.

Ehhh screw it I went ahead and Odin'ed noob's tarball before heading out the door.

Confirmed restoration of factory recovery mode
Warranty Bit: 1 (still void, not sure if it was supposed to revert)
phone still hangs on pulsing Samsung logo w/ pulsing blue LED

Silly point: why bother with the factory recovery if it doesn't reset the warranty bit? Or did I skip an obvious step?

I'm going back to Philz and playing with the Nandroid later.

edit: Yeah, Brick, I had no idea the T existed or that I had one until after I bricked my phone and I stumbled on this thread. If anyone has some clout and wants to spam some moderators we really need a sticky and our own forum. I mean, I'm on Virgin, how the heck would I have found this thread without some serious digging?

also, OH SNAP I just got it to boot past the logo.

If you're interested you can look into getting USB Jig. I don't know if it works with the L710t, but apparently it has had some success in resetting the KNOX counter. It also allows you to get into download mode from a brick. Here's the Amazon link.

http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Dongle-Samsung-Captivate-Vibrant/dp/B0053H73JQ

Supposedly newer devices like the S5 have no way of resetting the KNOX counter. Although there must be a way because people have gotten there devices back from Samsung with reset counters.

not sure what you mean..... boostmobile and virgin mobile are prepaid.....and owned by sprint...... sprint is the corperation and boost/vm are Subsidiary of Sprint Corporation. "SPRINT" its self does not have a branded prepaid phone
and boost/vm offer unlimited data... they are the only true unlimited data companys

You are wrong. Sprint does have a branded L701T for its own prepaid service. I own one.

i ws not aware of that...lol... but firmware i uploaded will work...its still "t" model firmware
after you install it it will select the correct bloat to install along with apn setting according to your imei

that tar file worked on both my phones ...if it booted past the s3 logo and went on to the samsung logo with a pulsing blue light mine took ten minutes or so...

and the reason for factory recovery tar i shared was for people that were bricked and could not boot into recovery only download mode...not to mention the firmware for the "T" model have not been released anywhere ....so i snagged it from kies when updating my phone after bricking it!!!!

Kies3 don't work with this phone so be careful just backup your stock ROM with the latest philz I post on this thread not the old philz trust me

care to elaborate ...since this is the way i pulled the stock tar!!!! lol kies 3 does work...if it dont for you perhaps try to uninstall and reinstall all kies/samsung applications and drivers and reinstall

Melly - if you Odin the tarball Noob posted it should set you back, right as rain. At least it did for me. It was pretty slow, though, so have some patience.

Noob: thanks a hundredfold for the factory flash. I, personally, am not super not concerned with the Knox counter, but I feel like for this thread to be complete resetting it should be a part of our end goal.

We now have an Odinable factory tarball and a factory Nandroid backup posted in this thread, which means that we -should- be able to recover all bricked SPH-L710T devices, regardless of provider. Yes?

Lets hope that is the case. If it is we can hopefully see some real dev support soon. So many great roms out there.
