I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 February 2014 to replace a HTC Evo 3D. I primarily use the phone to make calls, surf the web, check email and a few apps (My Fitness Pal and Words With Friends). Lookout is also on the phone.
Starting June 2014, I started having significant difficulty with charging the phone - it wouldn't charge when plugged in, needed to be jiggled a little bit when connected to the charging port, etc. I switched to a friends HTC charger and it seemed to charge ok. EXCEPT, from then on, the phone takes about 8-10 hours to fully charge (10% back up to 100).
I've struggled at times to get the phone charging - pulling the battery out, cleaning the terminals, jiggling the charging port and cable, connecting to USB instead of wall outlet, different chargers, etc. Not a single one has consistently fixed the problem. Using a new "something" generally fixes the issue for a few days and then boom, it starts up again. I've also experience the overnight battery drain - plug in at 10% and its dead in the morning. those following mornings I have a real hard time getting the phone to start charging again. Have to do all sorts of manipulation and maneuvers. The only charger that seems to be working well and appropriate speed is an Acura gift (external charger) - gives me a 30% charge boost in an hour to 1.5 hours.
I took it to a local repair shop, well-respected. They replaced the charging port the first time and then the cables and the charging port (again) the second time - still no benefit. I'm willing to put the money into it, since I need the phone, but this is a real nightmare now. I'm nervous every time I plug it in to charge.
Anyone hear of anything like this? I looked back through a few hundred threads but no luck.
