Sluggish, battery drain Android System, kernel, Core

After a few weeks of great battery life I've been dogged by battery drain of

Android System
Kernel
Android Core Apps
system
roid.sviewcover (I don't use a Samsung sview cover)

I thought that maybe it would be other apps in the phone but it appears not. I've turned off all of the usual stuff but still the phone response is painfully slow for its processor (yes, I cleared RAM) and the battery life gets me 3 hours of screen time, maybe a bit more. I wonder if Outlook 365 and Gmail is causing a battery drain that is part of but not reflected in the Android system. All those apps seem to generate little battery drain (15 minute fetch) compared to the Android system burning it up. Those of us on the Note 3 use 4.4.2 and there is no other option, on a T-Mobile phone. Very odd.

One more thing - call me paranoid but my phone frequently shows the outgoing wifi icon illuminated. Is there a way to tell what is supposedly transmitting outbound? Wondering whether any of these apps are collecting and sending more data than they should. I don't see major battery drain other than Android but, again, maybe this is some system based function and which is why it's being drained.
