Thanks to someone named sabooher, they showed me how to get into download mode on the vibrant, so if you are having trouble, hopefully this works for you.

Follow directions exactly.

1)start off with phone turned off

2)press down volume up, and volume down at same time, and never let go until you get into download mode. DON'T touch the power button

3) while holding down both volume buttons get your usb cable which is connected to your computer

4)plug in the usb cable into your phone, while you still hold down both up/down volume buttons at same time. Don't touch the power button.

5)As soon as you plug your usb cable into your phone, the phone will instantly go into Download mode.

6)You may now release the volume buttons

7)To exit download mode, I just do a battery pull, but of course you never want to do this if you are actually downloading something, you will brick the phone possibly if you do a battery pull during an actual download. You can also try holding down the power button till you exit out, this may work also.

What is the purpose of download mode?

It's commonly used to communicate with ODIN, which seems to be most often used for flashing back to a stock ROM. I've not dealt with ODIN yet, but I suppose one day it will be necessary.

From everything I've read getting to download mode can be a bear...sometimes it's a matter of trial and error...and good timing...and luck. You'll find different advice on exactly how to get there, but you eventually will get there.

Elaborate on what you meant by it's not working. Did the phone not turn on after you held volume up and down and plugged in the USB cable into the computer, did the phone boot straight into start up process when you followed this method, or do you have some kind of problems with your phone and you're trying to get into download mode to ODIN back to stock?

My Samsung actually boot to factory mode using your method. I tried -Volt home and power as suggest by many to get into download mode but failed(only factory mode), including your way(also factory mode).

Any other method?
