Root [Boost Mobile] Tri-Band S3 (SPH-L710T)

You can find it in this post what you need.
http://androidforums.com/index.php?threads/870166/

Thanks, I did read through this particular thread, but I am still confused on what the "correct" ROM and Kernel is what I need...... seems like there are several different Kernels as well as ROM's.... some seem to have issues with the S3 Triband..... I am still confused... LOL LOL

Do you have by chance the download link for the correct working ROM and Kernel for the SPH-L710T ?

I'd appreciate it...... Thanks

Hi,

new to the S3 !! ( Well, S3 Triband )

For now, I really don't need a custom ROM, but custom recovery and mostly important ROOT ( have lots of apps that require root ! ) !

Read through all I could find and downloaded Philz recovery and flashable SuperSU zip.... However, I don't know, nor have I found what the correct version of ODIN is I need to use.

Anyone has a link to the Odin download for the SPH-L710T ?

Also, what are the correct rooting steps ?

In some thread I read :
1. get into DOWNLOAD
2. Install Philz recovery
3. Reboot phone and install SuperSU from PlayStore

other threads saying :

1. get into DOWNLOAD
2. Install Philz recovery
3. Reboot back into recovery and flas SuperSU zip and then reboot

I am confused right now on what is the correct procedure. Can someone point me to the correct procedure on how to root the SPH-L710T ( the Triband version ) ? As I said, I don't need a custom ROM right now....

Thanks a bunch,

Xmas greetings,

VCE

Basically its wich ever way u want to do it....i personally found it to work every time by using the superSU binary installed using the root option already included in philz.... then just go to play store and install chainfires superSU and thats it

I too am confused about rooting the S3 Triband. This is my first Samsung so that doesn't help. All my rooting experience is on ZTE Warps without a computer. This method sounds very simple but can you give step-by-step detail to make sure I fully understand. Is Odin required for this?

  • Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S3
  • On your PC, launch the ODIN.exe file you unzipped from the prerequisites.
  • On ODIN, click the PDA section and select the Philz Recovery .tar you downloaded from the link above. Uncheck Auto Reboot! Make sure NO partition options are checked!
  • Place phone in download mode by holding Volume Down + Home while powering up. Hold until confirmation screen appears. Confirm by pressing Volume +.
  • Connect your phone to the PC via USB cable
  • Check ODIN. A small box on the upper left should turn blue and the dialog box must display "Added!!"
  • Select "Start" and wait for it to finish. After it is complete, Odin will say PASS! After you see this, disconnect the USB cable from your phone and pull your battery out of your phone.
  • Place the battery back in. While holding the VOLUME UP + Home button, while powering up and hold it until you see the blue text that says "Booting into recovery". As soon as you see this blue text let go of all the buttons!
  • We will now install SuperSU with the custom recovery. Click on Install in your custom recovery (Philz) and navigate to where you placed the file listed earlier which will be the SuperSU zip. Assuming the installation is successful, you will then want to select Reboot System from your Philz Recovery menu.
  • You should now be rooted! I assume you are familiar with what rooting does so there is no need to explain how SuperSU works. ENJOY YOUR ROOTED PHONE!

So this applies to Triband 4.4 in addition to 4.3?

I had the rotation problem I'm on virgin mobile. After I let the ROM boot up and settle for a few I then flashed the kernel for TW and I'm good to go.I highly recommended this build.
I have it linked backed a few post. All you can do is give it a try.If all fails there is a stock tar to put you back to stock,if you run into trouble.

Hi pOsSuM,

thanks for being concerned. Just got the S3 via UPS a couple of hours ago. After activating and going through the initial setup and update downloads ( mostly Google stuff ), I got the S3 into "download" mode and flashed Philz recovery, then installed SuperSU.... Rebooted, updated SuperSU to PRO , installed BusyBox and Pro and also RootChecker !

And I am rooted and so far, installed only Titanium Backup...... Have not done anything about ROM and Kernel yet.....Will do this probably after Xmas.... things get a bit busy here and I need a working ( rooted ) phone first.....

But YAYYYYYYY, I have root. :)

Thanks a bunch and if I have any trouble with the ROM and Kernel install, I certainly will ask you.

Merry Xmas,

vce

Your offer for help is very much appreciated ! Hope I don't need to take some "help-Time" away from you..... ;)

4 Kids and Granpa ?????? How has Tapatalk even a chance to disturb you ?? LOL I am single ( divorced ) and don't have any kids ( well not human ones ), but due to my job I have like 60+ kids which I call "MY BABIES" !! LOL All of them have 2 legs, 2 wings and very sharp claws and beaks !!! hahahaha

Ohhhhhh, one last question for now...... If I flash the ROM, do I reboot immediately after the ROM install back into recovery to flash the TW Kernel or do I have to do a normal reboot of the ROM first ????

Thanks,

vce

Is BusyBox essential? If so, where do I get it?

Is this the proper Philz download that I'm going to flash via Odin?
