I've just bought a new unlocked carrier free Nexus 5.
Opened it, and immediately upgraded to Lollipop.
Everything is working fine, but there is on wierd problem with the Google Maps app.

I dont see the blue arrow that is pointing to the direction I am looking at, and also the map dose not "move" with me when I move the phone right and left.

This is my Google maps app without the blue arrow:

This is how the blue arrow should look like :

I turned off location services, opened up maps and then re-enabled location. For a few seconds before it got a GPS lock, it showed my location with no arrow. As soon as the GPS lock was achieved, the arrow returned.

What happens when you move a greater distance?
I tried everything you mentioned: turning off/on (before and after the is open), navigating with it... The arrow just wont show

Mine has worked from the start of using 5.0 and haven't personally had any issues with it.

Have you tried going into /Settings/Apps/All/ and scroll down to Maps and then clearing the Cache and or clearing the Data for Maps?
Maybe even select "Force Stop" as well.
Then reopen the Maps app and see if the arrow around the circle will then appear.

I tried clear data/cache/stop...

How can I do that ? The app is default to Lollipop. I cant seem to remove it.

Sorry, your right without root you can't remove the app completely.
Another other options you could try would be to uninstall updates and roll app back to the previous version and see if it works correctly on the previous version... If so, clear the cache and/or app data and then you could try and upgrade the Maps app again to the latest version and see if that resolves the issue.

I also tried to remove the update and install it again

Let me know if it changes your map app as well. The US English version is oriented left to right, even the menus and icons are reversed.
It worked !!!
I changed the language to English.
Now the maps app is in English and I can see the arrow and the map is rotating as I swivel the phone.
I changed the language to Hebrew once more, and the arrow and swivel remained.

Cool.

Interesting. I would guess that clearing the system caches would have had the same effect. If I had to guess I'd say the cached image of the arrow was somehow corrupt. Switching languages meant switching character sets forcing a refresh of all the cached images and fixing the problem ... or it could be aliens. ;)

I have an N5, and am curious, I have the same affect, so I have to ask, how/where did you change the language? in setting of the phone or in settings of google.
I also do not have the like tilt slightly feature anymore either, like it used to have kinda a 3d, vs view from top.

I have tried all the mentioned and still nothing.

Under device settings, choose "language and input"

As for Google maps, what you do now is from Maps open the menu (either tap the three bars in the upper left or swipe the screen, left to right) and select Google Earth. From there you get the satellite view. For the 3D street view you drag the little yellow figure (on the right) to wherever you'd like the 3D view.

Yeah I checked the language, it's English. Not sure what the deal is, perhaps it's the new maps that's doing it.

As for the 3d thing I meant like in normal map mode.
At one time you used to have to hit the north, south diretion icon thing that sat in the top right of the maps, and it would toggle you a like top view and kinda side view (not 3d). the later version you would just hit the "find you" indicator at the bottom right and it would then toggle the same thing. Now all it does is find you and that's it, no toggle at all.

I have no direction indicator at the top right nor can I toggle the veiws....it's ONLY top view. '
It's really hard to explain things sometimes but it's the best I can describe it. I guess you would say it tilts the view somewhat, making it look more 3dish, or side view looking, more an angle view I guess you'd say.

I hope that better explains it :)

I did notice now though that the google earth has the north/south pointer like maps used to.
If this is how google maps is going I'll probably have to find me another maps app, not fond of the new changes for sure.

I figured out it was the rom I was on. Somehow on that rom maps just doesnt work exactly right.....it found my location, it worked as top veiw, but no pointer on the blue dot, and no direction icon in the upper right corner. Navigation also worked correctly. Not sure why or how to fix it other than using a different rom.
