Help HTC-Sensation 4G : Screenshot Issue

I had the exact same problem where my HTC Sensation would occasionally take screen shots when I pressed the home button.

At first I thought it was a hardware issue with the power button, but I soon realized it wasn't because if it was, the phone would constantly prompt me to turn off/restart my phone, which it didn't.

What I did notice is that the screenshot error only occurred when my RAM was running low at around 80mb. I fixed this by rebooting my phone, but that only lasted until the RAM ran low once again. The only way to free up ram was to manually kill background apps via the Task Manager.

I was able to find an app killer program that automatically optimized RAM by killing unused apps.

While this hasn't completely eliminated the problem, it's GREATLY reduced the number of screenshot errors.

I'm running;
Android version 2.3.4
HTC Sense version 3.0
Software number 1.45.666.5

Hope that helps.

My friend has a HTC Sensation 4g, now usually I can handle issues myself, because I'm pretty good with these kind of things, but this is an issue I couldn't figure out. Her sensation takes screenshots every single time she clicks the home button, It's supposed to take screenshots when the power button and home button is clicked at the same time, it does this sometimes, but not all the time, when we reset the phone it works for a short time but pops up again help please!

I updated to Android 4.0 and HTC Sense 3.6 today and the problem has been fixed. No more screenshot pictures taken randomly and can put my phone into standby without any problems at all now.

We all knew it was a software issue, however much HTC tried to tell us it was a hardware issue.

Hope this helps.

I, too have been having these issues. And I think I found the problem - not the solution.

After reading the thread over, and with much mention of the physical button, I decided to take a look myself. After close inspection, I noticed that on the inside of the shell's power button (not the one on the mainboard), there's a little thin piece of plastic connecting the button to the plastic. There are two pieces connecting it - one on the left and one on the right. When new, this allows the button to be pressed equally no matter what part of the button you touched. However, I'm 90% sure the the left piece is cracked, which makes it press at an angle and cause it to stick, which makes the results far from desirable. This makes a lot of sense when thinking of posts talking about playing around with the angle of button presses, cases playing a factor, and even wiggling it around. It's a flimsy piece of plastic!
My advice? Take care of it while you can, and do not wiggle it around in frustration - it may only get worse. At least I know the probable cause, now.... Now to find a fix.

THIS WORKS! After I updated my phone (Bell Canada) I was having this screenshot issue and I was getting so angry, wanting to throw my phone every time I wanted to go to my home screen. I found this and tried it out (after calling HTC and they said they didn't know what was wrong.).

SO RELIEVED THANKYOU!

I had the same issue with my phone. After messing with it and getting very frustrated, i noticed that when i held the corner of my phone where the power button is it didn't do it, and when I took the back of my phone off pushed the home button it didn't do it. I think its the back of the phone pushing on tbe power button causing it to take screenshots when u push the home button. Not sure how to fix it tho...

Contact solution does not harm your electronics. My power button started acting crazy, taking screenshots, and then not working whatsoever. I had a cover on the phone it so i thought there was no way it was stuck or dirty. But my bf's iphone center button stopped working and he read on a site to try ONE DROP of contact solution and then press the button a bunch of times. so i opened the SEnsation (literally just did this 5 minutes ago)....put one drop of solution right on the button ( with the phone off and battery off) cleaned off the extra solution right away and then pressed the button a bunch of times. Then i put the top back on, and kept pressing the button from the outside! Phone is perfect and working :) :)

I don't think some people are understanding the issue here. It's not that they can't get screenshots to work, it's that they're working when they're not supposed to! Say I'm browsing my photo gallery. When I'm done I hit the "home" button to go back home. I'm not pressing power at all, but instead of taking me home it takes a screenshot. I try it again, get another screenshot. I have to get out of the app by pressing "back" instead of home.

I HAD the same problem. In MY case the issue was a poorly fit case. The case was putting pressure on the power button causing it to stick. Once I took the Amaze out of the case, it functioned perfectly.

So I suggest, testing the phone outside of any protective case. If this does not solve the problem -- then I have no answer for you. Perhaps the button is sticky? Of course if you are case-less, again I have no clue.

If you are using the phone without a protective device, then my solution would not appy ... it would seem to be a more serious issue.

I had the same issue on my phone even though it's an HTC One. I was surprised to find out that it was in fact my phone case that was causing the problem. I did a test on the phone powering off after holding it for a while and it didn't power off after holding it for around a minute but it did pop up a black box involving instructions inside the box on how to restart your phone. And the screenshot issue is also caused by the same power button issue I just mentioned. Even when my phone case wasn't touching the power button, it still did this issue. The HTC phones are pretty similar so if you take off your case and hold the power button, you will most likely get the same results I have been getting.
